WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2006 Soldiers from Task Force Band of Brothers detained 11 terror suspects and seized weapons caches Jan. 4 in the Tikrit area of northern Iraq, military officials in Baghdad said today. Eight suspects were detained Jan. 4 by soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team while conducting a patrol near the city of Hawija. The soldiers destroyed a large collection of weapons and explosives.
Three suspects were caught as they tried to run away when the combat team patrol came upon their truck stopped alongside the road. Five other men were discovered in the truck. The weapons included rocket-propelled grenades and launchers, machine guns and roadside bomb components.
Three more suspects were taken into custody after another combat team stopped their vehicle near Hawija and discovered 30 pistols.
A local man reported a cache of about 6,000 anti-aircraft artillery rounds to a patrol of U.S. servicemembers near Bayji. The cache was transported to a nearby military base for disposal. Another cache containing 25 artillery rounds was discovered and taken to a base near Kirkuk for disposal.
Iraqi soldiers found and secured two roadside bombs and detained six suspects Jan. 2, officials said. The pre-dawn cordon-and-search operation was planned, staffed and conducted by the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 9th Iraqi Mechanized Division, and supported by Task Force Baghdad soldiers.
Better news, that further in the article you learn of the Iraqi soldier's success on Jan. 2, again I ask where is this in the news?

Apparently the training wheels are still on, but it won't be long now.
I think I saw this on CNN.
The headline read:: "US terrorists capture freedom fighters, steal weapons."
If you scan down the article you will notice ths success of the Iraqi soldiers on Jan 2. Yet I hear nothing about this. Those going to the recruiting center's and those like the soldier's should be applauded for stepping up for their country.
If it weren't for FR and blogs, we'd never know about most of this stuff.
You are right about this. The IRAQI Soldiers are stepping up. I suspect that this story is already being ignored by the MSM. Then again, I can't be certain about that. I do not used anyone but FreeRepublic, Newmax.com and FOX News for my information these days.
I would have liked it better if it read this way:
Soldiers from Task Force Band of Brothers killed 11 terror suspects and seized weapons caches Jan. 4 in the Tikrit area of northern Iraq, military officials in Baghdad said today. Eight suspects were blown up Jan. 4 by soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team while conducting a patrol near the city of Hawija. The soldiers destroyed a large collection of weapons and explosives.
I agree with your rewrite, thank you for adding it to the thread.
I would just love for the truth to get out there, not just the bad and the ugly but the GOOD.
I like "detained" better -- dead guys can't be interrogated.
Chalk up another unheralded victory for the good guys!
