Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, it's a special time, can we find a little peace?

Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, it's a special time, can we find a little peace?

I have been wanting to do this for quite some time. Somewhere deep inside I believe that there can be a bit of common ground between the Left side of the political spectrum, and the Right. Why would we want this, assuming of course that there is someone other than me that would like to see that happen. I believe that there are many things about our wonderful nation that we share that could serve as a starting point to start a healing between us.

I think we should try it, if only for the sacrifice so many have made to afford us this opportunity. If I am right, I'll bet there are some things, more than we imagine, that we have in common, and given a real chance we may find them..

If we can at least agree that we as a nation, have been slowly dividing culturally for quite some time. Perhaps we can even go a bit further, I think our society is sick, and it can use threatening to become truly polarized, to the point of permanent harm to the very fabric of our being..

Help me make a list of those things that make us a country that is united..

Please I am serious, list anything that you can, that you believe you agree  would be a compromise on your part for the good of our nation..

Moderator, please give us a bit of latitude, and maybe we can start a dialogue that will benefit all.. Merry ()

I'll start..
1) As much as it would burn my butt, I believe I could live with Gay Marriage if the Gay community could stop the Gay agenda, infiltration into our public schools, and private businesses.. You know what I mean.. I.E.: School, Diversity training, Gay-Straight, and tolerance BS.. and Boy Scouts, Salivation Army.. etc., I don't want to count the number of right wing conservatives in the offices of the ACLU. You don't want the 10 commandants being taught or a class on religious freedom, and creation, I say we both back down, and teach our own kids..

2) I don't like being told that I can't have religious symbols in the marketplace, but can we agree that any private business should be able to display any religious display it wishes without litigious reprisals? If the anyone in the public hates it, they could avoid that business as they wish..

3) I could live with abortion in cases of forcible rape, and the life of the mother or the baby, and even financial crises.. I am an adoptive parent, and I really can't think of a way to justify giving birth to every baby without a plan to care for it with love and security until maturity..

4) I believe there are still reminisces of sick racial prejudice in pockets of our society but I also believe affirmative action is insidious and cruel in main. I would agree to the harshest of penalty if anyone is caught withholding a job or position simply because of a persons race.. But I must say that I have no idea how to prove a case.. I have seen it happen on both sides and I wanted to scream, perhaps I will the next time, and maybe that is a start..

developing..

Thank you my dear FRiend.. I treasure opinions that are from folks that don't always follow convention wisdom. That said having a sound legal mind on your side can't hurt my position either.. Stay warm, and safe and stay close in case I need an attorney for the Christmas holiday.. :)

First off, Merry Christmas to you and all here on FR.

Secondly, I've often read and enjoyed your posts...you wear your heart on your sleeve and seem like a genuine and overall caring person, I respect that.

But I believe your initial post is a tad misguided. A conservative will always be dimetrically opposed to liberal regarding many issues, and there is nothing wrong with that. What I believe IS wrong, is the constant demonization of any regular joe-liberal and how (as it is seems) we should shun these people from our lives. We're talking about people here...people that bleed the same red blood that we do, have families, share in the same kinds of pains and struggles throughout the course of life etc. I cannot help it that, throughout the course of a day...I'll run into a liberal politically opposed to me; but at the end of a conversation, me and that other person will end up agreeing to disagree. I'll still treat that person as a human being, and try to be that persons "neighbor", because I think that's the right thing to do. Maybe I can do that because God gave me a nasty strain of stubbornness...preventing my principles from being compromised...hell, I butt heads from time to time with people on FR due to their percieved lacking of conservative principles...but I don't demonize them or alienate them...they are people just like anyone else...and I should act the the way the Lord would act towards them. That activism matters more than any other in my book.

Again...Merry Christmas to you and all here on FR.

Not true in the least. Those on the left who absolutely cannot stand those on the right are a small minority of liberals. Likewise, the number of conservatives who walk around with a chip against liberals 24/7 are also a minority. The vast majority of people, liberal and conservative alike get along fine despite their political differences.

Good post...I believe this to be true as well.

I'm thinking of the "Noble Lord" or "Magistrate" in the movie "Bravehart" that said to the peasants "have we not learned to live together in peace and harmony?" just before he slit the throat of the wife of William Wallace.

I have pretty much given up on such a goal. The days of the Democratic Party being defined by JFK, Humphrey, and Scoop Jackson are long gone (O.K. there are some Bob Bullock type Dems in left Texas except for Travis County). It is now defined as "HATEBUSHHATEREPUBLICANSHATECONSERVATIVESHATECHRISTIANSHATESTRAIGHTSHATEHATEHATE...", the operative word being hate. Blinding white hot hate. So much for the party of diversity and tolerance.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree.

The 'Rats that voted for Reagan are not the Left that I am talking about. They voted for Ronnie largely on the basis of his personality and the fact that the 'Rat party lurched way to the left. 'Pod.

Merry day after Christmas, Carlo, and Happy New Year. Remember what Christ said were the greatest commandments of all:

'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)

There are no instances where abortion can save a mother's life. Why we would ever want to compromise on his issues while we are winning is rediculous.

You repeat yourself but do not explain it. I understood the words the first time but not your facts. Do you really believe this? Are you a doctor? Can you provide some information that shows this to be true?

You will go crazy fighting the monolithic gay agenda.

You already have, you embraced it.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

It was conceived by radicals,...

Radical activists like yourself.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

gays getting married is none of anybody else's business

It sure is if you want public recognition, marriage licenses and tax deductions...

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

We have evolved here to irrational generalizing and fighting against stuff that involves... equal access to government.

False.

All adults have privilege to marry one consenting adult of opposite gender; therefore, Fourteenth Amendment "equal protection" argument about "privileges and immunities" for homosexual marriage is invalid. Driving, marriage, legal and medical practices are not enumerated rights; they are privileged practices that require statutory license. Nothing that requires a license is a right.

It was landmark U.S. Supreme Court precedent Reynolds v. United States in 1878 that made "separation of church and state" a dubiously legitimate point of case law, but more importantly; it confirmed the Constitutionality in statutory regulation of marriage practices. Congress, state legislatures and public referenda have statutorily determined polygamous, pederast, homosexual, and incestuous marriages are unlawful. No Constitutional Amendment restricting marriage is required to regulate "practice" according to the Reynolds decision.

Laws are made for the government of actions, and while they cannot interfere with mere religious belief and opinions, they may with practices...

[Reynolds v. United States, 98 U.S. 145, 8 Otto 145, 24 L. Ed. 244 (1878).]

See also: Late Corporation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints v. United States, 136 U.S. 1, 10 S.Ct. 792, 34 L. Ed. 478 (1890). Revised as 140 U.S. 665, 11 S.Ct. 884, 35 L. Ed. 592 (1891).

Marriage is a religious "rite," not a civil "right;" a secular standard of human reproductive biology united with the Judaic Adam and Eve model of monogamy in creationist belief. Two homosexuals cannot be "monogamous" because the word denotes a biological procreation they are not capable of together; human reproductive biology is an obvious secular standard.

Homosexual monogamy advocates are a cult of perversion seeking ceremonious sanctification for voluntary deviancy with anatomical function and desperately pursuing esoteric absolution to justify their guilt-ridden egos. This has no secular standard; it is an idolatrous fetish. Why not properly apply the adjudicated Reynolds 'separation of church and state' here?

No person can logically say that carnal practices engaged by homosexuals are consistent with human anatomical function. It is obvious, and an impervious secular argument to say that biology is a standard by which we can measure. The hormonal drive to mate is biologically heterosexual. Either homosexuality is a choice, a birth defect, or it is a mental illness. Take your pick.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

There is a big difference between NAMBLA and someone who wants to marry.

Yes, Michael Jackson is not a NAMBLA member although he did get married and now lives in Bahrain...

In the second paragraph of your link the spin starts. My very first point to you would have been ectopic pregnancy. A few will in fact make it to term but most will die and take the mother with them. Word games make it "not an abortion".

Back in the 70's I was in the Army with another Texan. One day his wife just fell over and was rushed to the hospital. She was both pregnant and a brittle diabetic. She had no idea she was either. Doctors assured her there was great danger in continuing the pregnancy with uncontrolled diabetes.

I would say your statement is simplistic, were it not the Christmas season I would be more harsh.

I hate abortion and have adopted children who I remind all they time (now that they are grown) what might have been. That said I can see a case here or there where I have no good answers.

What would you think if I told you that we are a lot closer than we are lead to believe on several subjects that are bedrock principles of ours.. such as Gun Control, Abortion, and the radical Gay agenda.. Many Democrats are a lot closer to us than their own party.

I'd tell you the same thing that I tell most of my friends and acquaintances et al. when they tell me that their democrats. I first ask them why. Then I tell them that I bet I can prove to them that they hold largely conservative views. Then I somehow communicate to them as discretely as I can that perhaps before they take such hardline liberal views as they do, perhaps they should quit spending hours upon hours of time watching inane TV programs and instead start spending at least a minimal amount of time worrying about our country that's going down the tubes with ignorant support from people like themselves. I then explain to them that it doesn't matter how they but how those that they elect do and behave.

I agree, a good chunk of the "constituents" of the dims are ignorant. But it doesn't matter b/c they're the ones that give libs the power. Now it's getting even harder b/c half the GOP is lib too.

Okay............ lets see here,

"1) As much as it would burn my butt, I believe I could live with Gay Marriage if the Gay community could stop the Gay agenda,"

Forgive me for asking, but where you born yesterday?

My reason for being against such a union is rooted in my Christian faith, in that I believe that the creator instituted marriage, and he made the rules on it. Their argument is with "GOD" on this one, and I don't think he is apt to change his mind. So...excuse me if I just happen to agree with "GOD", seeing as he is the ultimate authority here.

"2) I don't like being told that I can't have religious symbols in the marketplace, but can we agree that any private business should be able to display any religious display it wishes

Having religious symbols in the marketplace is not the issue. Having them on Public property is.

This was never an issue until the ACLU and other minorities in our society decided to make it one. As a proud member of the wonderful Christian community who happens to believe that our Country, it's Constitution, the Bill of Rights, our Laws, as well as our founders, where inspired by tenants of the Judeo Christian faith, which has made us such a great nation. To systematically exclude the influence of our Judeo Christian faith by banning any mention of it or it's symbols from the public domain, is to deny and mask our very heritage. I as an American see this as being very destructive to our country and it's future, and as a Christian, feel sad to know that our goverment is ashamed to acknowledge the very faith that inspired its very priciples of justice and freedom.

"3) I could live with abortion in cases of forcible rape,"

Again, according to my personal faith in the written word of "GOD", I see abortion as the killing of an innocent life, for the sake of convenience, and or self preservation of the mother's dignity.

That being said, I really don't support criminalizing it, because I agree that it is in fact, the choice of the mother. She alone should have to deal with the almighty about her decision in this matter. But it is also my duty as a Christian, to voice the Lords displeasure with the practice, but never in an unkind way, which unfortunatly is sometimes the case with others who feel as I do.

However, the issue is not so much about the criminalization of it, as it is about the federal funding of the practice. Neither I nor anyone else who believes as I do about abortion should have their taxes going to pay for the killing of a child, and that is what it is really all about!

"4) I believe there are still reminisces of sick racial prejudice in pockets of our society,"

Yes, and there will most likely alway be some amount of racial prejudice in all societies. I hate it as much as anyone, but there is only so much that can be legislated by law in order to level the playing field for all. And if legislation goes to far, you end up with reverse discrimination as law. It is impossible to legislate LOVE.

But I have good news! A firm embracing of the Christian faith, followed by a committed practice of "Jesus's" teachings is the solution we have all been looking for!

I believe that I have good reason for my stand. Therefore, I stand firm.

Merry Merry Christmas!
