I wasn't one of the people who stood in line for hours and hours when the xbox 360 first came out, but i was wondering if anyone knew if microsoft was making another shipment for before christmas or is it just hopeless? I went to the local EB and they said microsoft won't have another shipment until after the holidays. That kind of seems like a dumb idea, why cut off the shipments during the holidays? Can anybody shed some light on this, thanks.
"What happened to all the Xbox360's coming to New Orleans???"
A Chicago man who bought Microsoft Corp.'s new Xbox 360 has sued the world's largest software maker, saying the new video game console has a design flaw that causes it to overheat and freeze up.
The proposed class action claims that in Microsoft's bid to gain share in the $25 billion global video game market, the company was so intent on releasing the Xbox 360 before competing next-generation machines from Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news). and Nintendo Co Ltd. that it sold a "defectively designed" product.
Robert Byers, who brought the suit, said the power supply and central processing unit in the Xbox 360 overheat, affecting heat-sensitive chips and causing the console to lock up.
My daughter is a manager at Target in Chino CA. She said they were told that they would get 40 as would other big stores in the area (small stores got 3 or 4) and that would be it until after Jan 3.
For about 5 minutes...
Not there anymore. Trust me.
Microsoft has confirmed that there are problems with the Xbox 360 video game console. GameSHOUT received reports as early as the day of the Xbox 360 launch.
As we reported yesterday, several Microsoft Xbox 360 owners have complained about their video game consoles (see this article on Xbox 360 Recall Likely for more details). As it turns out, all the rumors were true. There are several Microsoft Xbox 360 owners having problems with flaky screens, dead hard drives, and even scratched discs.
Microsoft Xbox 360 spokeswoman Molly O'Donnel confirmed that the rumors were true, and stated, "We have received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected."
GameSHOUT has received many complaints from Microsoft Xbox 360 owners, and it seems the common problems are power shutdowns for no reason at all. The complaints started within a few hours of the launch date, November 22nd.
Microsoft has declined to say how many reports the company has received regarding Xbox 360 problems, but did say, "very, very small fraction" of units sold. The number of calls was not unexpected, Ms. O'Donnel said. "With any launch of this magnitude, you're bound to see something happening," she said.
MS O'Donnell said that if a helpline call could not solve the problem, Microsoft would repair or replace the unit. However, some Xbox 360 owners feel that the problems are more severe than what Microsoft is stating, and rumors again are reporting that the company could recall some of the xbox 360 units. We will keep you updated on any further developments on this story.
Well, I called Best Buy a little while ago since someone I love very much wants an XBox, 10 hours before their opening... they said they had about 30 in stock and 40 people were already in line. They told me to NOT to come down... "pointless". Yikes. I don't know if I could hold my bladder in that long, with as much caffeine as I'd be drinking.
Yea, i called all the best buys in my area( like 7) and all of them have more people than there are xbox's availible waiting, its absurd.
Another major design flaw -- in the horizontal position the 360 scratches discs. It can also happen in the vertical position if the 360 has spent any time resting horizontally. Also, if the box is tapped or nudged in the vertical position, the discs can be damaged. Microsoft does have a fix for it.
They rushed the box to market and they are artificially creating scarcity.
Depressing, isn't it?! If I had the right equipment, I'd go down there and sell coffee.
Success! My son was in line for 12 hours but got his Xbox at 8 this morning. I took them a vat of hot chocolate at 2. It was quite a festive atmosphere!
Just to add......Microsoft is doing the right thing by limiting the amount of 360's they release. Just imagine 2 million of these roll off the assembly line, to the market all at once and 10% of them have bugs. It would be a massive PR mistake. Not only that. This system is played online with entirely new servers. I would think a million new gamers all logging on for the first time, at the same time, would cause problems. I hardly think Microsoft is fabricating a shortage to sell more 360's. That doesn't make any sense to me. The Cabbage Patch it ain't.
Dude, like I said, believe whatever you want to....but a quick Google search of "XBOX 360 overheating" yields well over 500 hits. I didn't think anybody on Free Republic believed press releases anymore...I could care less one way or the other, but there are a substantial number of documented issues with the XBOX power supply causing the unit to overheat....you're blind if you don't see it.
Hey! Who you calling Dude? lol.... and you might want to try reading the forums over at xbox.com. Everyone except for a very slim few are enjoying the new system........including me!
Was my post addressed to you?
So that's what happened! I've been wondering why you didn't return my calls!
