Whats the deal with xbox 360s?

I wasn't one of the people who stood in line for hours and hours when the xbox 360 first came out, but i was wondering if anyone knew if microsoft was making another shipment for before christmas or is it just hopeless? I went to the local EB and they said microsoft won't have another shipment until after the holidays. That kind of seems like a dumb idea, why cut off the shipments during the holidays? Can anybody shed some light on this, thanks.

The only thing I ever camped out for was seasons tickets to the SU basketball games with the guys and gals in my dorm back in college. We all got sit in the student section behind the team right near the court for the whole season for $30. Plus, it was an all night party with your friends and room mates.

It may have been silly, but it was also college.

Camping out these days as an adult for video game strikes me as the same type of people who are Star Wars or Star Trek geeks. I couldn't believe that people camped out for weeks before the last Star Wars movie opened, but they did.

I sat in line at Wal-Mart for about fifteen hours. The same thing happened there, with people showing up at 10:00 pm wanting to know where the line was. Tickets were given at 9:30 pm, and the chairs (which represented the number of XBox's available) were full shortly after noon.

I was gonna plop down $1200 for two (games, accessories, etc), but had no idea they'd mishandle the shipping this badly.

So instead I'm going to check out am Armalite AR-50 on Monday.

Look, if you find a store that is going to have a shipment, you have to find yourself a teenager who will spend 24-48 hours in line for you. Pay them $50 plus all the Burger King they can eat, and you should have no problem. Give them a cell phone and have them call you 30min prior to the opening. Get your 360.

That is if the teenager doesn't steal the 360, your cell phone, and your 50 bucks.

I got the impression that you would give the teen the cash ahead of time to make the purchase for you. I didnt think of having the kid call you to tell you that he managed to get his hands on an X-box, come down and pay for it

My understanding was that each branch of the major chains got 30 units each, with notice that that was it for the Christmas season. I also understand that Microsoft was in such a rush to get XBOX 360 out this season before Playstation 3 is released next year, that there are design flaws in the unit--most notably, if you play the game for 4 consecutive hours (and what kid doesn't), the game heats up to such a point that it locks up until you cut the power and the unit cools down.

Hey thanks for the tip! I called, our Best Buy has 24 to sell at 8 a.m. And already had a few in line outside. So my poor 16 year old son is in line in the cold. I will go relieve him later tonight.

Well, your understanding is wrong.

The 360 is a tower, meant to stand upright. Some people laid them on their sides, blocking vents and allowing their units to overheat. My units have both been on for days on end (especially since I caught the flu) and there have been NO problems.
