I don't know if the REAL President Bush has been "hiding" (so happy so see him back!) or perhaps has the patience of a farmer...and having set the fields in as much order as possible in Iraq & Afghanistan...now starts dealing with cleaning his house. He also has a remarkable degree of "timing" the Democrats arguments have been relentless (and depressing for years) and now sound totally worn out...and here comes 2006...ELECTIONS....hmmm... Perhaps Rove & Bush are delightfully "Evil" Geniuses....my kind of people....

This has Leahy, Durbin written all over it!

That sounds about right...only I'll bet theres a few buffers in between insulating them

I completely understand. Cantwell and Murray are my Senators.

We have to convince our friends and neighbors. In my state, even that is hard. Most of the counties in Washington are solidly red. But we have a giant, corrupt blue King County—and not all of it is corrupt, just the hard core middle is rotten. All I can say is that we're working on it—really, really working hard on it.

It's frustrating, but we can't blame the top for our own failings or we have ceded control to others. We can only work harder and more effectively.

"If President Bush had wanted to exercise the nearly limitless War Power of the United States, he should have asked for it."
Sadly enough that's true. Simply calling yourself a 'wartime president' doesn't eliminate the need to ask for a declaration of war.

I think I know why Congress (Senate/House members) are upset.

There has been an awful lot of leaks. The NSA can focus on specific words on cell phone conversations.

If the NSA were to target the phones of Senate Staff members or NYTimes/WAPost/APreporters, then they could quickly (possibly) find the link of the leaker. We know who is doing the writing. Who is doing the talking? Tap the phone and FBI check all at the other end.

I am willing to bet that mistakes are still being made, that phones are still being used, rather than carrier pidgeon or the postal service or a pay phone.

The anti-American left are domestic enemies, unclothed when they leak classified info. The President should demand and get a blanket court authorization permitting him to scan Congress members and reporters!

duh! ...It's the NY Times... SSDD

As to the 'pubbies... They will have to learn how to play hard ball one of these days. Do you think they will begin now, or are they just gonna roll over like they have so many times in the past? What's it gonna take?

...Let's see now... Tell me again how that 'memo-gate' thing came out...??? ...Has Kerry been indicted yet??? Has leaky Leahy lost his security clearance yet?

...Nah, I didn't think so.

This whole thing is another 'Rat Red Herring that is going to be nearly impossible to defend because of it's security classification. It's easy to sit and throw twisted half truths around in the press like the 'Rats are doing.

The problem here is that in order to defend it, the President would have to reveal highly classified information, and that is just not going to happen. The good news is that the only people who think they have hurt Bush with this also have an account at the DUmp...

I doubt it. Frankly, I don't think he cares.

It must be frustrating to try to conduct a de facto war when war has not been de jure and overtly declared. That was the root problem in Korea, in Vietnam, in many lesser military activities since, and in Iraq now. Afghanistan is getting a pass for the most part for reasons not so clear. If war were formally declared, these problems would not exist.

He should care, the same ones he tried to befriend are now attacking him.

The Bolsheiviks reasoned 'if there is no God, everything is permitted'. Seems the same applies to treason...if nothing is treason, everything is permitted. President Bush would do this nation a great service by putting consequences back in this picture; especially when the nation is fighting a war. The instruments of executive power exist to make all fifth columnists (whether elected, appointed or merely federally employed) think hard before revealing critical national security information.

Their Timing is Off on the Hits, this far out from the 2006 elections, if Bush is mad, I'm glad, he needs to get out his CHAIN SAW and start cutting DEMOCRATS like Texas Brush, LOL!

Democrats are STUPID, and just giving us more ammunition, to fry them with.

Freerepublic and the Conservative Talk Shows will Destroy them between now and 2006.

I don't care if the NSA listens to all conversations in the United States, I really hope they do.

The Democrats HAVE NUTHINGGGGGGGG!

The Constitution does assign to Congress the duty of declaring war, and I'm in favor of following the Constitution. On the other hand, how do you declare war against a terrorist organization?

The bloodiest war in American history, the war of 1861-1865, was never a declared war (at least on the Union side...I'm not sure if the Confederate government ever took any action).

Bush tried to departisanize it, but it obviously has failed. Now he's given up.

You may be right (at least I hope you are).

Now brace yourself for the flood of "Angry Bush Lashes Out" news stories, followed by "analyses" admonishing him for setting a partisan tone.

It would be tough to declare a war on an entity that is not a recognized country. But, it could have been done in the case of Iraq, and that undeclared war is the source of most of the political shenanigans in the press and in Congress simply because the war powers have not been formally invoked. If the war is quick it doesn't matter, but as time goes on some people see opportunities for political advantage and take them.

The Civil War is different since it was internal [depending on who is talking] for the most part and the Constitution might not be clear on that kind of thing.

It's about time he got angry. Next up:

traitors at the MSM and CIA; Cindy Sheehan Patrick Fitzgerald

Being nice has gotten him nowhere.

The "new tone in Washington" was one of the worst political strategies ever. All it did was empower the leftists and cost us trillions.

And whoever came up with the 10 month "don't respond to your critics" communications strategy needs to be fired.

All that did was encourage his enemies and demoralize his supporters.

I'm starting to feel much better now.
