yes i know the routine. sort of a bait and switch, it just seems we, meaning those of us who can aggregate power and control an agenda, can be just as effective as another group which promotes something that happens to be illegal and a national security risk.

So, we demand our representatives address this issue, we vote for them, and we hold them accountable after the fact. It might seem idealistic, but I hear a great rumbling sound these days, a loud background noise from a lot of people who are absolutely and completely fed up with this. Along with some other areas of contention, historically 'controlled' by fringe groups, I hope it indicates a change coming.

Now that is a border.

The land mines ought to be the ones that shoot up out the ground and sling nails.

Maybe Gilchrist can run for Senate in '06. Looks like those guys might need a wake-up call as well.

and even if the opposition lobby does gain some or more control, the point still would not be moot. You have a good point, though, the ignorance of which would be of great risk to all...

Refers to a project in Alaska that is being touted as pure pork...a bridge being built out to an island that has a fairly small population.

One of the sponsors of the bill got an estimate from a private firm that can do this for $654 million. It's doable.

I support the wall, but I always have to ask myself: "Did the East Germans tell their citizens that they were building a wall to keep them in, or to keep others out?"

The German wall had no doors. This one will have doors for those who want to come and go 'legally'...........

You are exactly right, and those defeatist comments infuriate me.

Don't be suprised if Vinnie Fox and his government issue ladders to the would-be illegals once the fences go up. They will never accept the US keeping their citizens from entering uninvited, there's too much money at stake and it postpones indefinitely the reforms that country needs to make.

Yes it does work in Korea...as do the sensors that tell us when the North Koreans are digging tunnels under the DMZ.

Yep it is 'Bait and Switch' but more like 'Smoke and Mirrors'. Sort of like the Pork 'Bridge to nowhere' in Alaska that, after the budget busting Katrina disaster, we were told had been canceled. I read today that, yes the bridge was canceled, but, with very little fanfare, the money was still being given to Alaska to spend as they deem necessary. Apparently they deem this bridge to be necessary and the bridge will go ahead as planned.

Correctomundo!!!!

The biological wonders of the political world - no guts, no spines, no testacles - in the Senate will close ranks behind Reid, Fristless, and McClown and shoot it down.

Itr ain't possible to actually dot it.

How do you figure?

It's going to be a very long fence. It won't be the fix-all that some on here wish it to be, but it IS a start.

""Only supposed to cover parts of the border. Will just change the traffic flow to different spots. Means nothing.""

with respect i totally disagree, if I may. This again is the point of view, that it is better to do nothing than to start doing some things, even though 'some things' may not be the complete solution. A physical barrier means no go through that sector, so deterrent resources will be able to be focused and applied elsewhere. So smugglers now have to use the sea more than before to get here, perhaps. Well, we have the coastguard. Can they then become part of the solution. We don't become defeatist, we start step by step to increase deterrents and make it harder and costlier for the illegal activities.

There is no magic bullet. The problem must be addressed from all angles at once. When the other required steps are put into place and succeed, (internal controls) maybe the discussion will become how to remove the walls.....

That and the wall in Berlin was manned by guys with machine guns with orders to kill on site.

Big Difference.

Lemme guess... they will have to hire illegals to build the wall as no American is willing to do that job.
