''Mr. Bush... tear down that wall.''
If the wall is built, that will be the refrain.

I support the wall, but I always have to ask myself: "Did the East Germans tell their citizens that they were building a wall to keep them in, or to keep others out?"There are much greater threats to our freedom right now than a fence along the border. First of all, there are countries like Britain and Australia that are surrounded by water, and they're not descending into tyranny (at least no faster than countries that take up portions of continents). Secondly, if we do descend into tyranny, it will almost certainly be on a global scale, which means we wouldn't have many places to run to anyway.
All in all, the far greater threat to our freedoms comes from having such a porous border.

Finally some movement on a very serious need...
BTW, any Senator who bucks the trend needs to be voted out.

They already tunnel under the Rio Grand to smuggle drugs, so why not to smuggle people?

It ain't possible to actually do it (typos corrected)
I have two comments for you.
1. Tell it to the Israelis.
2. Your comment implies that since you believe it is impossible, we shouldn't even try. To that, I say BS. That's the wrong attitude to have.

Maybe I'm just simple, but "walling up" the border should mean just that.......building a wall. This article mentions "security fencing".Actually, a fence is better, because it enables the BP to see through it and monitor what's going on on the other side (tunnel-digging, etc.). Besides, it takes away a lot of the grist for the propaganda mill from the likes of Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

I don't think from this side you will hear that... people along the border will be more likely to cheer.

The Alaska pork obtained by Murkowski (sp?) - 250M for a bridge to an island with a population of 50 and existing ferry service that is more than sufficient.

Build two fences about 10 meters apart, with the in-between ground laced with anti-personnel mines. Every five meters along the fence post a warning sign with a caricature of someone being blown up, and the words, "If You Cross This Fence You Will Die" in both English and Spanish.

I always have to ask myself: "Did the East Germans tell their citizens that they were building a wall to keep them in, or to keep others out?" If you really want to visit Mexico, you can fly. None of the good places to visit are right across the border anyway.

Of course, strap yourself in for the media outcry (and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins of course) howling about how the United State is not "East Germany".......in reference to the Berlin Wall of course. Ironic, isn't it, considering that Sarandon's and Robbins' political sympathies were probably with the East German 'workers paradise' when the Berlin Wall was still standing.

Looks like the House Republicans were spooked by Gilchrest, as few can absorb losing 1/3 of the GOP vote to a third party. They look to innoculate themselves with such votes, while counting on the complicity of the Senate, and House-Senate conferees to deep six the fence in obeisance to their cheap labor OBL contributors.

Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.
I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.
