Every Thursday at the Finest |
Kudos on the tables and borders plus the Christmas Carols are great!
I am enjoying the music also and have saved them all to my hard drive. Of course, I especially like the Mannheim Steamroller........anything by Mannheim Steamroller. :-)

Addtionally, he is the co-chair of the Congressional Caucuses on Bulgaria and Mongolia. In the 108th Congress, he served as the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, the largest country caucus on Capitol Hill.
From participating as a teenage republican to serving in the halls of the U.S. House of Representatives, Wilson has dedicated much of his life to public service. He began his career as a member on the staffs of South Carolina legends Senator Strom Thurmond and Congressman Floyd Spence. He also worked in the visionary Ronald Reagan administration as Deputy General Counsel for the United States Department of Energy Secretary and served under former South Carolina Governor, Jim Edwards. Wilson was proud to serve in the South Carolina State Senate with perfect attendance for 17 years.
Throughout his life, Wilson has strongly supported the U.S. military. From 1972 1975, he served in the United States Army Reserves. After serving as a Staff Judge Advocate in the South Carolina Army National Guard for over 31 years, he retired from military service in 2003.

Dear Servicemember,
Teddy Roosevelt once said, "far and away, the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing."
As a member of the United States Armed Forces, your work is making a difference daily in the lives of millions of people throughout the world. You have volunteered to take on an incredible responsibility, and you continue to exceed our expectations.
For centuries, U.S. soldiers have protected American families, guarded our coasts, saved our cities, and paved the way for our children and grandchildren to enjoy the same freedoms we cherish today. The work you are doing today is furthering the greatest spread of freedom and democracy in the history of the world. While most people cannot claim they risked their lives for something that is greater than themselves, you have earned this honor.
Tremendous responsibility rarely comes without great sacrifice. As you fight the War on Terrorism by land, air, and sea, I can only imagine how much you miss your family, your friends, and the comforts of home. American families are now celebrating the holiday season, and your absence is felt in your communities. While we continue to enjoy the blessings of living in our great nation, we will never forget that the American way of life is made possible by your service. You remain in the thoughts and prayers of every American.
Since our country was attacked on September 11, 2001, you have played a critical role in spreading peace through strength. Where a brutal dictator once ruled in Iraq, a new democracy has now begun to flourish. Where women were dominated by an oppressive regime in Afghanistan, they now play a critical role in their country and are enjoying the rights and privileges of democratic societies. Where terrorists once seeped through the borders of Pakistan, they are now being captured by American and Pakistani forces. Where murderers once plotted disastrous attacks against innocent civilians, they are now detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Where terrorists once found safe haven in the Horn of Africa, they are now on the run and unable to access the critical support they need to carry out their fanaticism. In country after country, you are stopping terrorists and ultimately protecting American families.
As a member of Congress, I have had the unique opportunity to visit your battlefields and witness your many successes. Each week, you are capturing terrorists, rebuilding communities, and giving people around the world the chance to experience opportunities that only exist in free nations. Although the media rarely reports your victories, I strongly believe that the American people recognize that you are making tremendous progress.
The threat of terrorism is not temporary and your service will remain essential for years to come. We will continue to stand behind you and to entrust you with the duty of protecting our country and our families. As you resolve crises and destroy the enemies of democracy throughout the world, you reflect precisely why we must prevail in this war. You are the definition of decency, the embodiment of excellence, and the meaning of strength. Your presence abroad is securing our safety at home.
Thank-A-Soldier Week provides Americans with an outstanding outlet to personally express our appreciation to you, the brave men and women who make our freedoms possible. As the father of three sons serving in the military (including one who served for a year in Iraq), I fully understand how important it is for you to know that we support your mission. I am sure Americans throughout the world would agree with me when I say that we have never been prouder of our men and women in uniform.
Although I will never be able to fully express my gratitude, I can guarantee you my unwavering support. As you continue to work for the best prize that life has to offer, never underestimate your contribution or forget how much your efforts mean to the American people.
I love my South Carolina modern day patriots!!
I just love your stories! You are such a good storyteller! Your life has just been chock full and it has been a great ride! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Ha!! Consider this particular Calendar of Events:
April 17 1954 - birth of son, Steve, at the Naval Hospital in Port Royal, SC.
Husband (Navy hospital corpsman there) was due to receive sea duty orders any day, and sent baby and me to Florida to my parents in May to see Steve for the first time.
In June, orders for an LST out of Norfolk arrived, and he came down to Florida and announced that he was going to take me up to Rochester, NY - his home town - because it would be easier to hitchhike there on weekends from Norfolk!
Okay - so I could stay with my parents rent free and not have to work - but away to NY we drove. I was plunked down in the upper half of a house apartment in the suburbs with the edict I had to go to work to pay for it, during a national depression...luckily, I had won the Bausch-Lomb Science Award in high school and the interviewer at Bausch-Lomb loved a person with a military work ethic - Ed's sister took care of baby, but I had to take two buses to be at work by 0730..ancient car sat in drive, uninsured and not registered.
All right, Ed was home several weekends before he sailed off to the Mediterranean, and 3 months later I was pregnant again - in an area where I could NOT get military medical care! (No CHAMPUS then)
A friend from the Marine Corps was home with her parents in Ohio, and offered for me to go there to stay. She and George (deployed Marine) had been our neighbors in SC, so Ed came home and deposited us there. She had a brother and grandmother in her parents' house, and decided she and I (she worked) would get an inexpensive apartment nearby, and moved into one.
With this communicated to Ed, he hit the roof - very possessive and jealous, he although back from the Mediterranean was about to go on a 6-week deployment to the Caribbean from Norfolk, and DEMANDED I get on a plane to Norfolk *NOW.*
Right - with a baby 10 months old and 4 months pregnant, I was surely going to flirt or worse with men??
Landing in Norfolk, he had arranged for me to stay the 6 weeks with a shipmate's wife who had just had her first baby - Steve and me in the other bedroom, sharing expenses. It was The Arrangement from Hades, her baby crying all night every night, and she very difficult and noncommunicative..:(
When the husbands returned, we looked for a place to rent in Norfolk, including - so help me - sharing a converted chicken coop with another couple!
I saw with my own eyes signs in yards that read "Dogs and Sailors Keep Off the Grass"
The Lord took mercy on me, though, and gave him immediate orders in March for shore duty at Chincoteague Naval Air Station, Virginia - -
In those action-packed ELEVEN months, I literally moved my baby and me SEVEN TIMES, among five states - and had Kevin in Virginia!!
I was all of 21 years old.....
LOL! Billie you are so funny. :)
Out of the Navy in 1956 and back in Rochester, his stepfather gave us a tree Christmas Eve for the little guys, then 1 and 2 - and for Other Reasons, I went home for good in June of 1957.
Hi Dita
