Mike Farrel. Now there is a useful idiot if ever there was one. If he was a real man, he would offer to take tookie's place. What goes on inside that guy's head? I think he is conflicted, half-gay or something. Wonder what his relationship with his mother was like.

6-0 against Tookie. That is not insignificant, especially as Tookie has some financially well to do friends.

"*sigh* I hope this is a lesson to the next person out there...."

That would be a good thing, indeed. Sadly, I'm not sure that it has been in the past or will be in the future.

Criminals are criminals, it seems. They don't seem to be governed by the same things the rest of us are. I have no doubt that this Tookie character is a violent psychopath who would never have been affected by anything like the threat of capital punishment. Psychopaths just don't have that mindset.

I'm not sure what the answer is that would help prevent such horrible crimes. I'd like to be able to identify and incarcerate those who would commit them, but I can't find any way to do that.

Murder is not new in human society. Murderers must be punished for their acts. How we do that is a measure of our society.

Around the world, some countries use the death penalty. Others do not. It's a constant question. Even here in the US, we don't use capital punishment everywhere. Each state has its own laws about it.

I do admit that I find the glee with which some folks are approaching this execution to be way beyond the pale. Jokes, suggestions for songs, and the like just seem to me to be about as far from what our principles are supposed to be as possible.

We differ in our opinions, but neither of us is joking about this issue. That just seems way wrong to me.

Yet, you and some other freepers who desire to either see him fry or see liberals lose don't have the patience to allow the process to occur.

A quarter century wait would seem to indicate a good bit of patience. At what point would you consider the process to have run its course?

Mob rule on this issue is rampany here today. Folks freeping, folks yelling their vote is based on this. Its quite disgusting. The governor has an awsome responsibility and I for one think that it should be done without a crowd yelling at him.

"It's less than 12 hours to zero hour, and we're STILL waiting .... ? Why is Arnold doing this?"

Because it is not an easy decision for him to make. Nor should it be.

I'm against the death penalty myself, not because it is immoral for certain crimes but becauese too many mistakes are made by police gathering evidence and in the testimony of witnesses. I prefer the idea of converting a few maximum security prisons into prisons for lifers, where the only way anyone gets out alive is if they are proven to be innocent.

(Now I will quickly don my flame-proof suit.)

Arnold will make an announcement just before midnight, so the mobs will all be home tucked in bed or too stoned to riot.

Just got out my VOM
Measured resistance between thumb and index fingers.

Came up with about 500K Ohms.
The harder you squeese the probes the less the resistance.
Wet fingers and even less.

If I remember correctly your figures of 100 - 200 milliamps being a lethal amount of current is correct.

All ya have to do is a bit of Ohms Law.

It seems to me that an athiest would be more likely to be against the death penalty than a Christian. A belief in God typically means a belief in a better place than this. An innocent soul will be judged rightly by their Creator. A damned soul will be damned.

If you believe that all there is to life is this life, then it should become far more precious to you, as this is all there is. Death is the absolute extinction of your consciousness in that regard.

"Yu know the guy who played Billy in that flick also announced that he was running for governor of Kentucky several years ago? Then it came out he had a couple of run-ins with the law for domestic violence and he dropped out."

Sonny Landham (Billy in the film Predator) was unsuccessful in his bid during the primaries in 2003 running as a Republican for the office of Governor of Kentucky. It was revealed that Landham appeared in some porn movies during the 1970's. He ran briefly as an Independent candidate but eventually dropped out and endorsed the Republican candidate.

I've enjoyed your debate. Too bad everyone on FR can't debate various issues like you two.

I agree, beaureeguard! Well done, doug from upland, and MineralMan. A gentlemen's debate is refreshing. :)

His final words:

As he is laying on the table, will he have the guts to admit guilt, and ask for forgiveness, as the needle is inserted into his arm?

I don't think he will.

I think he'll go out the liar and murderer he is.

NO CLEMENCY JUST ANNOUNCED>
