WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush is using a visit to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, birthplace of the U.S. Constitution, as a reminder before the Iraqi elections that the path to American democracy was not always easy either.
Pennsylvania also is the home state of a leading Iraq war critic, Democratic Rep. John Murtha, who planned to speak on Bush's heels and repeat his call to bring the troops home from a fight he says has become too violent and out of control...
Iraqis are preparing to vote under tight security to elect a 275-member parliament that will run the country for the next four years. The election will be the first under the new constitution ratified in an October 15 referendum and will complete the steps toward democratization following the ouster of Saddam Hussein's government.
Monday's Iraq speech is Bush's third, part of a campaign to win support for the mission, with most Americans saying in polls that they disapprove of his handling of the war. The speech is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET.

It is. One of my favorite movies.
LOL. But a lot of Upstate Dems are Reagan Dems. Just another reason we don't see Hillie too often in these parts.
Actually, it is a good thing if they want us to go provided, of course, that they didn't poll terrorists, Baathists or Iranian plants. We want them to own their country and frankly, our soldiers are needed next door.
Of course, Brian showed him the current NewsWEAK cover of him in a bubble and he asked him if he was in a bubble ..... DUH!
And doing a FABULOUS job of answering them! Strong, confident, assured of his beliefs...
Here is another thing.. We formed our Government ourselves. We did not have any help. We basically formed this nation with our current of government literally from scratch..
"I didn't know that."

Get on the ping list of this thread and you will know and see photos of the ceremonies as they are turned over!
I spent a weekend on another forum trying to document what Bush has said and to dispel the notion that he ever tied Saddam to 911..He indeed has,as have democrats and others , tied him to having connections to Al Queda and assorted terrorists..
Indeed. It's amazing how many around here still don't see the difference. And it's even more amazing how the media intentionally (yes, I'll say intentionally) puts out misleading reports.
Bases have been turned over to the Iraqis as they became trained and ready, for months!!
President Bush has used that phrase in reference to the war against Saddam on more than one occasion before today.
"Knowing what I knew then and knowing what I know today, America did the right thing in Iraq," Bush said Thursday [Feb. 5, 2004] in Charleston, South Carolina.I found 35 instances in a search of the WH website. To be fair, he has moderated his message somewhat, from this in April 2004 ...http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/02/05/sprj.nirq.tenet.wmd/index.html
And Saddam Hussein had something else -- he had a record of using weapons of mass destruction against his enemies and against innocent Iraqi citizens. Knowing what I knew then, and knowing what I know today, America did the right thing in Iraq. (Applause.)We had a choice: either take the word of a madman, or take action to defend the American people. Faced with that choice, I will defend America every time. (Applause.) September the 11th, 2001 was a lesson for America, a lesson I will never forget, and a lesson this nation must never forget. We cannot wait to confront the threats of the world, the threats of terror networks and terror states, until those threats arrive in our own cities. I made a pledge to this country; I will not stand by and hope for the best while dangers gather. I will not take risks with the lives and security of the American people. I will protect and defend this country by taking the fight to the enemy. (Applause.)

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: We didn't find the stockpiles that we thought we would find. Everybody thought they would be there. We haven't found them yet but he did have the capability of making weapons. Knowing what I know today, I would have made the same decision.http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0408/09/ip.00.html
JUDY WOODRUFF'S INSIDE POLITICS - Aired August 9, 2004
Knowing what we know today -- I thought we were going to find stockpiles; everybody did. But he had the capability of making weapons. And if the world had turned away from watching Saddam, that capability could have been passed on to terrorist enemies. It's a risk we could not afford to take. Knowing what I know today, I would have made the same decision, and the world is better off for it. (Applause.) The world is better off for it.http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040812-9.html

Even though we did not find the stockpiles that we expected to find, Saddam Hussein had the capability of making weapons of mass destruction and could have passed that capability on to our enemy, and that was a risk we could not afford to take. Knowing what I know today, I would have made the same decision. (Applause.)http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040826-10.html
Remarks by the President at Farmington, New Mexico Rally

I would have gone into Afghanistan the way we went into Afghanistan. Even knowing what I know today about the stockpiles of weapons, I still would have called upon the world to deal with Saddam Hussein. See, I happen to believe that we'll find out the truth on the weapons. That's why we've sent up the independent commission. I look forward to hearing the truth, exactly where they are. They could still be there. They could be hidden, like the 50 tons of mustard gas in a turkey farm.http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/04/20040413-20.html
President Addresses the Nation in Prime Time Press Conference
April 13, 2004
The people of Iraq want peace, security and a future....as long as they believe that is what we want for them, and that are resolve is steadfast to that end, we will see this through to completion.....they (the Iraqi's) know what the terrorists want....this isn't brain surgery....

At the time it was started, the war was over refusal on the part of Saddam to "open his house" to inspection. He was in violation of numerous UN orders.
The other positive attributes to regime change (more transparent government, government answerable to the people via elections) naturally tag along, and would hold in many countries. Zimbabwe would be better off with regime change, as would N. Korea, Somalia, Iran, Cuba, etc.
Bush should have answered him Rummie style and said "Your ratings have been declining for years and nobody knows who anchors the nightly news anymore. Bernie Goldberg says that's because you're stuck in Manhatten. Are you stuck in Manhatten?"
Frankly I don't give a damn what he does. He's shown he's a nitwit and a leftist clown and more precisely, a sockpuppet for the antiwar kooks in this country.
Excuse me, YOU do NOT speak for me!
