Speaking of polling numbers, did anyone see the slanted poll about how Iraqi's are favoring a US withdrawal by over 60%?

Pretty much stated that.....but it also stated that over 50% did not want us to leave until Iraq could take care of its own security.

Again, they want us to leave (is that hard to believe?) but not until the job is done....

Exactly, and furthermore, his dopey statements are a fine example of why polticians should stay the hell out of war planning, even if they hold the purse strings as it were. War hero or not, Murtha is an embarrassment.

JMO, he has to speak to those who just read the headlines.

Here at FR, we know. We read the headlines, the lines and between the lines. We have access to everything out there that piques our interest and a lot of us read it, digest it, respond and learn more.

No, you are wrong. All those things that you mentioned were tag alongs for the establishment of a viable Islamic Democracy which President Bush felt was the essential tactic in the war against terrorism. Bush considered all those things that you mentioned as further reasons to sell the war to the congress because he did not think that they would fully understand and support going to war to establish a beach head for Democracy in the center of the Middle East. That's where the WMDs came in, as an over simplification.

I wish Bush had put that person in their place and answered the question by questioning the 'premise' of the question itself. Would have been a perfect opportunity to dispel one of the left's favorite myths. But, KUDOS to him for the Q&A. That alone went to the heart of the charges that he only gives speeches to favorable audiences (military).
IMO

Here is another thing.. We formed our Government ourselves. We did not have any help. We basically formed this nation with our current of government literally from scratch.

The French will be really surprised to hear this. So will the Spanish, the Dutch even the Russians. Sorry but your contention isn't historically accurate.

I think "to speak at great length" fits. It was a pretty long speech :)

This is SOME of the progress in Iraq

"Together, Iraqis And Americans Are Making Progress.

Reconstruction has not always gone as well as hoped - primarily because of the security challenges. Rebuilding a nation devastated by a dictator is a large undertaking - even harder when terrorists attempt to destroy gains.

Yet, in the space of two and a half years, the United States has helped Iraqis conduct nearly 3,000 renovation projects at schools, train more than 30,000 teachers, distribute more than 8 million textbooks, rebuild irrigation infrastructure to help more than 400,000 rural Iraqis, and improve drinking water for more than 3 million people.

The Coalition has helped Iraqis introduce a new currency, reopen their stock exchange, and extend $21 million in micro-credit and small business loans. As a result of these efforts and Iraq's newfound freedom, more than 30,000 new Iraqi businesses have registered since liberation, and according to a recent survey, more than three-quarters of Iraqi business owners anticipate growth in the economy over the next two years.

This economic development and growth will be key to addressing the high unemployment rate across many parts of the country. In addition, Iraqis have negotiated significant debt relief and completed an economic report card with the International Monetary Fund - a signal that Iraqis are serious about reform."

Much more detail at link.

I don't think he forced 537 political hacks on them either...But that doesn't address the issue of Aaron and Moses does it? They were installed, if you will, to lead the Israelites by God Himself. They weren't elected, nominated, or forwarded by the people. God must not be as up on democracy as you and the rest of the Republican faithful claim He is. Could it be democracy is the institution of man?

The American Founders were led by God, but they were not better people by nature than others.

Indeed they were. However they also were learned men and had studied the 500 years of republican ideals from their own culture leading up to the 1780s. How many republican ideals have been forwarded by Iraqis in the last 500 years?

I'm not saying they couldn't grasp it, they very well may be able to. However, contrary to Bush's pollyannish speech it will not happen in a year, a decade, or even the next century. The Middle Eastern nations historically tend to lean towards more monarchist and theocratic governments. I just wonder if you faithful will be calling this a victory when the Iraqis vote themselves a theocratic government. The only hope for Iraq would be to split it into three sections, and give each group its own area back. This has been a failed experiment going on since at least 1918

I'm listening. He also says terrorism started in Afganistan. He's becoming as embarrassing as Sheehan. They need to keep putting him out there.
