WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush is using a visit to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, birthplace of the U.S. Constitution, as a reminder before the Iraqi elections that the path to American democracy was not always easy either.
Pennsylvania also is the home state of a leading Iraq war critic, Democratic Rep. John Murtha, who planned to speak on Bush's heels and repeat his call to bring the troops home from a fight he says has become too violent and out of control...
Iraqis are preparing to vote under tight security to elect a 275-member parliament that will run the country for the next four years. The election will be the first under the new constitution ratified in an October 15 referendum and will complete the steps toward democratization following the ouster of Saddam Hussein's government.
Monday's Iraq speech is Bush's third, part of a campaign to win support for the mission, with most Americans saying in polls that they disapprove of his handling of the war. The speech is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET.

Yep, Podhoretz dissects their motivation well in his analysis of that comment. It's a lengthy article, 14 pages printed out in MS Word, but overall a good one.
Howie, Hillie, Bubba, et al. They're always preaching to the converted. Hillie's infamous in NYS for her parachute drop-style public appearances. LOL. That ain't gonna go over well in a national campaign.
He knocked another out of the park today
Crissy Matthews is now putting his MSM spin on what President Bush really said.
I know it started with a "P"! LOL!
Bush only knows how to talk straight. The man CANNOT mince words. He looks like an utter fool when he tries. He needs to have somebody better than McClellan to mince words for him. And keep quiet except when he's going to talk turkey. Because when he gives it to you straight, he's a Mensch.
That little jab would have only been better had he said, "I thought I should insert a little Scottish law, Senator." .....which I know the President wouldn't do!
Absolutely. Perhaps a retard. Saddam had 'em, he hid 'em, he was buying them.
But I swear I've never heard it uttered that "knowing what I know now" I'd still do the same thing. Which, I agree. All this about missing "wmd's", everyone knows it's a straw man. But I really don't recall the prez or anyone else in the admin say it quite that way.
Not true for "ALL OF US".
Where did the Dems think AQ and its ilk were gonna go after Afghanistan was no longer a terrorist safe haven? What did they think was going on at places like Salman Pak for pete's sake. A Boy Scout jamboree?
The question was a connection between 9/11 and Iraq .. not between Saddam and Al-Queda
That is why he didn't go down that road
The media would claim the President said there was a connection if he asnwered the question like that
received this in an email today:

Whenever Bush talks in prime time, people whine that he is pre-empting American Idol or whatever.
I sort of agree with Billbears, the bible does not provide support for democracy. Choice, yes, democracy, no.
But God did not give Israel a king -- because God was their king. But the people didn't like God being their king, they wanted someone they could SEE, so God gave them a king, and told them they would regret it -- and they did.
Our relationship with God is King and slave/servant/subject. We will be like sons/daughters. We are to live like communists, only in its perfect form where everybody gets what they need, and everybody delightedly gives what they can afford.
Communism is not evil, it is simply unworkable in a fallen world. Democracy is amoral at best. God put together a heirarchical ruler/servant society at all levels -- God/man, priests/subjects, councils/people, man/woman, parent/child.
My guess is that the administration was careful not to use 9/11 as a reason to go to war because they could not establish a clear link to the attackers (they were Saudis). So, now he is not going to even admit that there were many less direct links. Someone, maybe Rove, has decided that it is better to keep the spread of Democracy as the focus. Linking Iraq to 9/11 would make it seem more like retribution and imperialist conquering.
The speech to the World Affairs Council in Philadelphia

Yup. And it will happen over my dead body.
Christianity means I share with you.
Communism means you take from me at the point of a gun.
That's the difference.
Grrr ... The live feed just went down
