Microsoft on Wednesday said some Xbox 360 owners are reporting problems with the new video game console that debuted in North America earlier this week. "We have received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected," Microsoft spokeswoman Molly O'Donnell told Reuters in a telephone interview.
Enthusiast Web sites such as Engadget.com and Xbox-scene.com, as well as Microsoft's own Xbox Web forum, carried postings on Wednesday from Xbox 360 owners reporting that some systems had crashed during regular play as well as during online game play using the Xbox Live service.
Roundup Xbox 360 grab-a-thon Devotees line up as the console launches in the rain and in the desert.Problems included screens going black and the appearance of a variety of error messages.
"So, the Xbox 360's been available for, what, 15 minutes, and already the crash reports are streaming in," a poster on Engadget said. The sites did not say how widespread the problem was.
The machine is the first of a new generation of consoles offering high-definition graphics and has been snatched up by game enthusiasts since its launch on Tuesday.
O'Donnell, who declined to say how many reports the company had received, said calls represent a "very, very small fraction" of units sold. The number of calls was not unexpected, she said.
"With any launch of this magnitude, you're bound to see something happening," she said.
O'Donnell said the best way to resolve the issues is to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX for trouble shooting. If that does not solve the problem, she said, Microsoft will repair or replace the unit.
Graphics are pretty good. Damn good for a console and beginning to contend with PC level graphics. I've got it on a 48" 1080i screen and visually it's several steps better than the old Xbox now sitting to the side as a doorstop.
No problems with heat, but yeah the hum of the drive is a little louder than I expected.

Any word when the first Service Pack is due?
My. Microsoft really isn't popular around here, eh?
If you want to know how Microsft ended up with 90% market share, that was because Apple gave away most of its market share to Wintel in the late 80's and the 90's by refusing to compete on price. They priced their Mac's way above PC's with comparable performance and gave the market to Wintel. I believe that mistake motivated Apple to bring back Steve Jobs as CEO (a good move.)
The Soberano is the best.
That's my smoke!!! Tried those La Gloria at a cigar tasting at my local cigar shop, and was instantly hooked. Wonderful stick...

To each his own. If I don't like MS that is my business, you are free to like whatever and whomever you want
Haven't had any problems yet. No crashes. Even left it on (accidentally) all day yesterday when we went out for Thanksgiving and it was cool to the touch when we got back, contrary to some reports of overheating.
Just an observation.
Just give me my Zelda and my Metroid... and my Tales of Symphonia... and nobody gets hurt, people! lol
No, you are totally insane.
