This from the WCCC web site on Adj. Professor J. Daley
For immediate release: November 22, 2005
Statement from Dr. William Austin President Warren County Community College
I firmly believe that the most precious freedom all Americans share is the First Amendment right of freedom of speech. I am committed to working unceasingly to see that it is preserved for all WCCC students, faculty and staff.
At the same time, there are existing state laws as well as College policies and procedures that must be followed to ensure that all members of our College are free and encouraged to exercise their right to free speech without fear of intimidation or retaliation. I am dedicated to protecting and preserving that freedom.
The recent dispute between two members of our College community Adjunct Instructor John Daly and a student representing a new student club speaks clearly to the complexity of addressing these issues in these difficult and controversial times.
Late today, the Board was informed of Mr. Dalys decision to resign his Adjunct position at WCCC effective immediately. In its meeting, the Board voted to accept the resignation agreement and instructed the administration to make certain that students in Mr. Dalys class are offered the highest quality instruction in this interim period.
We have already moved ahead in finding a very able member of our faculty to conduct the remainder of Mr. Dalys classes for this semester. We will also rededicate ourselves to a review of our current policies and procedures to make certain that we continue to foster an open and collegial learning environment at our institution. I personally pledge to see that tolerance training is included in our next faculty and staff in-service, and to consider a broad range of student input in its development.
One for the good guys.
It's not complicated at all. Had he advocated the murder of the member of ANY OTHER GROUP, he would have been summarily fired.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Well, surprise, surprise...it did occur to a lot of people that the threat to Daly's academic freedom was nothing compared to the threat he presented to the students' academic freedom by threatening, in effect, to see that they were run off campus. Had he stuck to criticizing the war he'd have been fine.
I bet that CU bolder or UW madison will hire him.
There were in fact some very good local authorities involved in this and it appears they made their position clear enough that Mr. Daly decided to fight another day.
Hat's off to John DiMaio and Edward Smith (and probably a few more), but most importantly... watch for Ms Rebecca Breach to have a bright career. She's a class act and kept her composure well through this.
Cheers,
Lloyd
Please make sure that the next professor can spel...
Whooo Hooo!
Well, it is Kommunity Kollege, after all.
I predict that he will now be a hero for the America-hating psychotic left and Michael Moore-on will feature the unlamented departure of Daly from that campus in an upcoming festival of leftist hate-film. Watch for Daly to enjoy highly paid speaking appearances around the country (and quite possibly Canada and Europe!!) as a welcome (for the left) martyr for leftist hate and depravity.
Wow. I truly thought he'd be given a slap on the wrist and a private talking to (atta boy!).
HooRAY! Someone did the right thing!
Did anybody ever find the other place Daly is teaching?
I doubt that he will hit the lecture circuit as he is not a very big fish, just a temp lecturer. Probably go back to writing procedural manuals for Canadian Health Care.
I am impressed with the speed with which the president of the college acted. Good going.
They should have refused his resignation and fired his sorry butt!
Where is Dean Wormer!?
