Yeah, just like pulling out of Somalia and failure to react to the 1st WTC bombing, the Saudi bombing, Pan Am bombing, Cole bombinb, etc..etc..etc...made us look tough and the Islamofascist terrorists respect us and leave us alone.
Oh, now I get it! {sarc}
What an idiot, although what do you expect from a Democrat?

Murtha and Osama Bin Laden are in agreement on this. Following this fellows inclination would in effect turn the middle east over to the Jihadists. First, Iraq, then Saudia Arabia would fall, then Kuwait, then Jordan and the control of the worlds oil would be in the hands of these radicals.
Our country is at the mercy of the oil producing countries as a result of the enviromental nut cases and the do gooders who have stopped ANWAR, off shore drilling and the building of more refining capacity. A catastrophic event is going to have to occur before people come to their senses.

Dreher is a fool for ascribing seriousness to any Democrat, saving maybe Leiberman, and a useful tool for the traitors in the politics. No serious person states as he did today. Now we know he said this last year, and Dreher has egg on his face.

The Democrats for one reason have a deep, rabid, personal hatred for President Bush. And it increases with the passage of time.Their one and only goal in life is the complete destruction of President Bush. If they have to destroy the Nation along with themselves, so be it.
That brings us to where we are now.
In spite of the propaganda put out by the main stream media and the Council on American Islamic Relations, the goal of Islam is to destroy Israel and the West using any means necessary. The United States is included in the term "West".
The Democrats hope that they can , with the aid of their propaganda arm,the main stream media turn public opinion against fighting the Islamic fanatics in Iraq and thereby cause out troops to be withdrawn. This cannot be allowed to happen because the Islamic fantics will not allow us to stop fighting them. Anyone who doubts this look what happened to Israel when they tried to give the Gaza Strip to the Palestines. Instead of being grateful, the Palestinian response was. "You did not give us anything, we kicked your ass out and we are going to kick you out of the territory you occupy now." That , in a nutshell will be the response of the fantics that we are fighting in Iraq. They will believe that they ran us out and will continuing attacking us whereever we are, including the continental United States. Whether or not anyone wants to recognize it or not we are in a fight to the death with Islam. There will only be one winner. We can either kill them or they will kill us. There is no third option.

Don't know what gave Dreher this case of the stupids, but here's yet more evidence (as if needed) that Murtha's "Break" was not a sudden, recent or conditional occurrence:

The Hill ^ | 5 jan 05 | Hans Nichols Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) is actively lobbying Democratic National Committee (DNC) delegates to select former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean as their next chairman. The endorsement of the leading antiwar presidential candidate by one of the Democrat's most prominent early supporters of the Iraq invasion signals a rehabilitation of Dean's image in the House and greatly increases his prospects of leading the party, many Democratic lawmakers and aides saidSeveral lawmakers said support by the hardscrabble, old-school Vietnam veteran, who endorsed former Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.) in the presidential primaries, would compel the DNC to take a second look at the firebrand...

Most of these Democrats are just a push away from falling over the edge. I'm glad to see President Bush and Vice President Cheney doing the pushing.
Keep a box of straight jackets handy, this could get ugly.

I'm sure there's going to be an anti-Murtha pile-on in the conservative blogosphereI don't quite think "pile-on" will capture the intensity (or justice) of it. "Gunny Bob" certainly didn't hold back:

Murtha was a tough hero once but in his old age has turned into a "little old lady in tennis shoes". A term we used to use during the Viet Nam war.

Nothing like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Dems are terrified of the President's strategy working miracles for the ME. Yesterday on NPR, they said Dem's ideas were 'realistic'...(running away with our tails between our legs)...and the need to abandon 'neocon' idealistic grand schemes for the ME.
The other day, they discussed the President's trip to South Korea and the NPR reporter kept saying 'Bush' did this or that, and 'Bush's rhetoric', and when he mentioned the South Korean President, he said, 'President So and So.' Normal operating procedure for this crowd. No respect for the President of the United States and slamming whatever he has to say as 'rhetoric'.

As for Murtha's remarks, you'd have to be made of iron to remain unmoved by a trip to Walter Reed. But Murtha's a fool if he thinks waving a white flag at bin Laden and company will win us a lasting friendship. After the war, Vietcong leaders admitted that we'd beaten them and they'd been about to surrender, but along came Jane Fonda, the MSM, Liberals, Democrats, and John Kerry. The Vietcong knew they had a strong fifth column in this country and kept on fighting, knowing when the dems won an election, we'd run away. Murtha is a fool.

MICKEY KAUS on the Murtha foofaraw: "The press is pretending to be surprised by Murtha's views ('An Unlikely Lonesome Dove' ... 'a fierce hawk') even though he's been a known, public Iraq War skeptic since at least a year and a half ago. . . . I'm ready to be convinced that U.S. troops are doing more harm than good in Iraq, but Murtha's speech is not convincing. He doesn't even try very hard." He doesn't have to, with all the help from the press.

The simple fact is, whether you believe we should have gone in the first place or not, is no longer the issue. We are now fighting Al-Queda in Iraq. That cannot be denied by anyone.
The call for cutting and running is now unquestionably naive and ignorant; doing so would have severe and long lasting consequences. Far worse than what was experienced after we left Vietnam. Far worse than what we experienced to date in Iraq.
It can be argued that Iraq's connection to Al Queda was tenuous before the war started, that cannot be said today. Iraq is the most important battlefield we've seen since WWII; it will dictate the length and ferocity of the battles to come. If we should leave before the mission is complete, the message sent to the Islamic Fascists will be that we can be defeated if only we wait them out.
The consequences of such an action will be extreme in both the deaths of those left behind and economically. Understand the ramifications of having a Taliban regime with all that oil, understand what that will mean to Afghanistan, understand what that will mean to Saudi Arabia. Losing Iraq will most certainly impact the western worlds oil supply. Although I have no love for the Saud's, they most certainly will fall if Iran and a taliban type Iraq put the squeeze on them.
Only five years removed from 9-11; three years removed from the start of the engagement in Iraq, some Americans are ready to surrender.
If that is the position we adopt as we go forward, this country will be at war for many decades to come; the only difference is the war will be much closer to home and have a much higher cost.
Simple fact is that this war will be fought whether we like it or not. At this time we have the ability to dictate where, when, and to what degree; we have the high ground. Leaving Iraq will forfeit all of that. IMHO....

There's an important election coming up in December.
Why are our Congressmen trying to destabilize the situation at this critical juncture?
Don't they realize that they embolden the enemy, and by doing so, put our troops at risk?
If they would put as much energy in supporting the successful end of this war, the current problems the troops are encountering would be less than the are now.
If you ask me, some people in Washington care more about their own petty desires than the do about the safety of our nation!
