Senator Jay Rockefeller Gave Syria Advance Warning Of Iraq War Intentions! (FNS Transcript)
Fox News Sunday (Transcript) ^ | 14 November 2005

WALLACE: ...in October of 2002 in which you authorized the use of force, you went further than the president ever did. Let's watch:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ROCKEFELLER: I do believe that Iraq poses an imminent threat, but I also believe that after September 11th that question is increasingly outdated.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

WALLACE: Now, the president never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?

ROCKEFELLER: No. I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq, that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.

Now, the intelligence that they had and the intelligence that we had were probably different. We didn't get the presidential daily briefs. We got only a finished product, a finished product, a consensual view of the intelligence community, which does not allow for agencies — like in the case of the aluminum tubes, the Department of Energy said these aren't thick enough to handle nuclear power.

They left that out and went ahead with, "They have aluminum tubes and they're going to develop nuclear power."

WALLACE: Senator, you're quite right. You didn't get the presidential daily brief or the senior executive intelligence brief. You got the national intelligence estimate.

But the Silberman commission, a presidential commission that looked into this, did get copies of those briefs, and they say that they were, if anything, even more alarmist, even less nuanced, than the intelligence you saw...

Colin Powell showed satellite photos to the UN which reflected that convoys of trucks were leaving known WMD sites and headed for the Syrian border.

Why the administration and Republicans in general don't remind the left of that little tidbit, as well as the clip that you quoted from the UN itself, is a mystery.

Allow me to tell you why people in WV vote for this jerk - He either runs unopposed or when people show up at the polls in Nov. to vote, they are surprised to see two candidates for Senator, Rockefeller and somebody no one ever heard of who has spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 10,000 on his Senatorial campaign. The only way any Democrat Senator in WV will be replaced is by choosing not to run (not likely) or dying in office UNLESS some self-financing multi-millionaire with name recognition decides to run as a Republican. The RNC is never going to spend any $ on a Republican candidate in WV unless the seat is open and the people in WV will continue to choose the devil they know over the one they don't.

re: Assad Jr.'s heads-up from the Intelligence Committee's Dim-bulb leader.

He [Rocket J.] said he feels content after talking to President Bashar al-Assad

This contented feeling Rocky experienced, given the additional context of his 11/13/05 FNS remarks, can only mean he felt he needed to tell Bashar this bit of news about President Bush having made the determination by 9/13/01 to invade Iraq . Having broken the news, Rocky left contented President Assad heard what he needed to know.

If there was no substantiating evidence to the claim, one could reasonably understand that the Dim's (or dims') plan was to cloak the asserted "fact" with the greatest sense of gravitas they could muster.

On FNS, Ol' Rocky was pointed in his having done this alone, yet there is mention in the contemporaneous news articles of his being accompanied by a delegation. What's up with that? Did he pull Bashar aside so his comments wouldn't be overheard by anyone else in his own delegation?

Great Cartoon idea...

Idea for a political cartoon or a column hook: Jay "Paul Revere" Rockefeller on horseback, riding through the Syrian desert, shouting, "The Americans are coming, the Americans are coming!"

because the Democrat base is completely anti-war.

That's exactly right. They all signed the authorization for use of force and they were all right behind Clinton with his tough talk on Iraq. Then as soon as the protesters hit the streets and they realized their base was swinging into an anti-war movement, they all turned tail and ran for political cover. They needed a way to explain their vote on going to war so the whole "Bush lied" spin was wound up. The media latched onto it as it wound anything that even smells of scandal in the White House and the rest is (rewritten) history. It's disgusting.

I'm more inclined than ever to believe that Joe Wilson went to Africa in February 2002 to cover up known facts. I wonder if Rockefeller is the one who made sure that Wilson was the "Secret Envoy".

We need a plan. An activist plan. Petitions. Phone calls. Letters.

Okay. So we need a Constitutional Expert.

Enters Billybob

Tell us Sir John, does TREASON work like IMPEACHMENT? Does the House vote and the Senate try the case?

It seems to me we should all be on the same page when we're writing/calling our Congresscritters, so first we need to figure out what we're going to be asking Congress to do. (My vote is to try him for Treason, but I doubt the limp ones have the courage to follow thru)

Where in the H-e double l is the "Conservative Press" who were so quick to throw water on Harriet Miers when she didn't meet their standards? If they remain silent on this, I'm going to have to assume they think Rockyfella did nothing wrong.

I was wondering how Rockefeller got out of Vietnam. He married Sharon Percy, a friend of mine from Stanford, and it seems to me that he spent the 60's working on Capital Hill. Just maybe, he was too old.

I think we also need to send snail mail letters.

Snail mail is still being diverted for Anthrax screening, if I understand the process correctly. The last I heard there is a 6 wk delay in mail delivery. Phone and email are much better choices IF my information is correct.

Congresspersons cannot be impeached. They can only be removed by the body itself as the Constitution gives it the power to set its own rules (like filibusters)

Not sure whether people can be recalled...it may be state by state.
