And this isn't even an Anti Abortion law, its to just notify the parents right?

Prop 73 is NOTIFICATION only. Not even permission required.

Currently in CA you can be 13 and get an abortion without parental notification.

I see you at least listen to Texas swing music.

Thanks for your comments but I don't listen to TX music.
My kind of music is Bach, Brahms, etc.

The LA Times is reporting that all the PROPs were defeated by "WIDE MARGINS". Thats what we are fighting.

That means all were union and government employees voting and reaping the rewards of hundreds of millions of dollars of slanderous ads.

I think we can help them go BROKE doing this over the next two election cycles for just starters.

Let's break their back and we'll take what we want and win California back.

They can't fight common sense with money endlessly at the levels they need to.

They are going down and I am thrilled to see them spend all that money to break their bank on defense.

I knew the RP was done for in this state when it chose Bill Simon over Richard Riordan in the 2002 primary. And guess who played the RINO card the best? Grey Davis accused Riordan of being a RINO in attack ads, 'causing pro-life Simon to be chosen. Even though Democrats had to hold their noses when voting for Davis, they could not countenance a pro-life Governor. Being pro-life in this state is simply a politcal impossibility for a statewide office at this time. The demographics are going to have to change big-time first. Come on, this is the state that elects and re-elects Boxer and Feinstein to the Senate, for cryin' out loud! If the RP does not acknowledge that reality, maybe they could give up their permanent ballot status to the Libertarians, who might then have a better shot at actually getting someone elected.

"social conservatism" is against things like abortion and gay marriage - "social liberalism" is not. SC puts a high value on traditional ways, SL does not.

Leaving me alone seems to be traditional to me. Abortion affects someone else, gay marriage redefines tradition, though to a lesser extent am I personally affected by someone else's free association and his pursuit of state license, which the state can deny. The people of a state voting to ban gay marriage licensing is fine, as "the will of the people", as with Prop 215 ("medical" marijuana) which McClintock even supported as "the will of the people" after it passed. That's not usually your typical "conservative" idea (weed), but standing by the decision of the voters is.

Most everyone has an SC streak in them because people generally seek out what is normal to them. They are really SC on the things they value. That's when you see the SC of what we call Liberals today come out - with the "free speech zones" and no smoking laws.

I can believe something is wrong based upon my values, and I don't have to like a certain behavior, nor equate deviance with normality. It's the social conservatives who are opposed to smoking bans (and one would think bans on private/bedroom personal behavior). This is because it's taking away not only the choices of self-determination, but also the responsibility. Social Liberals want people to do only what they approve, and tie consequences to other uninvolved parties, like welfare. I suppose, at this point, we're talking about the line between traditional conservatives and conservative libertarians.

It's been a long day, and at least it looks like the utilities won't be re-regulated. So, not a complete loss this election! 'Night.

Redlands is north side of the San Bernardino/Riverside County line. Off Interstate-10.

I'm a native of San Diego, grew up there and graduated from high school and UCSD. I still have a lot of friends there and have a memebership in a country club. I may buy a vacation home there some day. What is your problem son?

Bill, there are ways to remain competitive in any state, even as a conservative. Law and order, fiscal conservancy, education, community development... and other issues appeal accross party lines. That's how you move people in your direction. You will never move people in your direction if you don't present your values, reason with your counterparts and convince them you are right.

Of course there is some truth in the things you say, but it's my opinion we have surrendered certain areas to the left, either as democrats or our own leftists. That needn't be IMO.

Thanks for the comments.

Learn, you never vote third party beyond dog catcher.

Absolutely Correct. From the sound of some on this thread
they voted third party, but what the heck they voted
their principle and gave us Carter and Clinton.

Did they remember to point out they had endorsed some of those propositions or conveniently forget they were on the losing side as well?

The positive side on the otherwise negative outcome of prop 73, is the Republican party and the nation will rally together for the next elections.

Yep, your principles are worthless if you already lost your mind. Never throw away your vote on third parties.

And the leftist labor radicals spent perhaps as much as a quarter billion to stop Arnold's agenda. That's a HUGE silver lining. They can't keep doing that for very long.

Well, the fact that 75 lost means that, yes, they can go on doing that for very long.

I really thing it is a mistake to "look on the bright side" here. Because a hard lesson was taught about CA politics tonight, and it is important that the RP take away some lessons.

This state is now under control by some hard-core liberals who seem to have a guaranteed 5% bloc-vote advantage in this state. On top of that, Grey Davis gave us the quick rise of the governmental unions. I mean, the teacher's union has always been strong in this state ever since they got their a$$es handed to them in 1976 with Prop 13. But now we've got other unions, like the prison guard union, who tip the scales even farther. And their power wasn't pushed back tonight.

The only reason there is even a RINO occupying the statehouse is due to Arnie's star power. Even had the recall passed without the possibility of an Arnie run, Bustamante would have beat McClintock easily.

Someone in the RP who is truly serious needs to sit down and get some strategery going. It might even have to be an outsider, 'cause frankly, the insiders appear completely clueless.

Excellent primary strategy. Ignorant general election strategy.

I'd have to say the CA Governor election returns of 2002 shows both strategies to be ignorant. Republicans fell right into Gray Davis' trap in the 2002 primaries.

Thankfully the Miers thing was changed.
With the terrorism we are facing, much of which was
brought on by Democrat inaction during the 90s
and if another dem becomes Prez. we are finished.
Europe is in chaos and it is only going to get worse.
As much as I don't care for RINOs, I would rather have
that than Hill & Bill pt.II given a choice.

sarcasm on:
We might as well let the 13 year-olds vote, since they can abort their unborn without permission! How others would dare make a decision like that and VOTE to it in regards to another's teen is beyond me.
sarcasm off:

Anyone have stats on how many times in CA a 13-17 year old has gotten an abortion and not notified her parents?
