OPERATION HERO ALERT:

Funeral Services for Seargent Evan Seam Parker
Counter-Protest of WBC
Wednesday, 11/2/2005*
South Haven Public School - South Haven, KS

OPERATION HERO is spreading word of a planned picket by Westboro Baptist Church
during the memorial service of Seargent Evan Seam Parker.

Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing during the
funeral service for Sgt. Evan Seam Parker on Wednesday, November 2 in South Haven, KS.
This anti-Troops/anti-war "liberal" hate group will be protesting
from 1pm - 2pm outside the High School where services are being held.
The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 2pm, so Fred and his protestors are
purposely protesting during the time when most people will be arriving for the services themselves.

Please show your support for this hero!

Email Request for Counter-Protest Support at the Funeral!

My tiny home town in KS lost one of our own, Sergeant Evan Parker, 25,
died Oct 26th from shrapnel head & neck wounds rec'd in Iraq.

We just got word today that Fred Phelps (
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/keyword?k=fredphelps )
plans to protest the war at the funeral this Wednesday.

Do you have suggestions on how to counter &/or turn out a huge number of active & reserve troops?
Anita and the whole town are upset, just don't need to see these protesters at the funeral of her son.

Here is the link for arrangements:

Thanks

I think Rolling Thunder has drowned out Phelps before in Maryland at a similar funeral.

They slow to a crawl as the family procession enters the burial area and rev their engines so the Phelps gang cannot be heard/seen over their huge American flags--awesome!

Hi everyone!

I received the following email last night:

My name is Tom Leahy, I reside in Derby, Kansas and work in the Middle East. I am a Vietnam Veteran. I also am a member of the ALR 136 Riders and when I am home I have the privilege and honor to ride with this very fine and patriotic group of people.

While I can't be there for the funeral and show physical support I am with you all in Heart and Soul and can assure you and Sgt Parker's family of my support and condolences. This man is a credit to his family and country.

The WBC need to go on the outside and look in instead of the inside looking out to appreciate what our country stands for to appreicate how fortunate we are to live in the US and what our soldiers do for us to allow us the freedoms we have.

After spending many years in the Middle East, "There is no place like home" and we need it protected it at all cost. The WBC should be thank full that they do have Freedom of Speech and can express an opinion, however do it with respect and intrigrity and in a proper and dignified manner. Try such protesting in Saudi Arabia, Yemen or Tienanmen Square in Beijing, China and see what happens

My oldest son. (Sgt USAF) is on his way to Iraq next month and I am proud that he represents one of the finest fighting forces and country the world has ever know. My middle son is in the Marine Corp and younger lad in the Air Force. Two of my sons have already served in the Middle East and Bonsia

Once again please pass on my support and condolences and God Bless America and her soldiers.

Best Regards
Tom Leahy
Derby, KS
(Street Addrees, phone, and email withheld to protect privacy)

THANK YOU TOM - for your support, and your family's service to this great nation! We are all grateful!

Saw this thread a little late, but my first thought was contacting veteran bikers to show up. Nothing like a huge cloud of exhaust, and the roar of a loud Harley to drown those bastards out : )

PS: Last I heard the Hell's Angels and the Mongols didn't like each other. Maybe they could call a truce, in the public interest.

I'll read down to the end to see how things went.

These "Baptists" are nuts. But left wing? Somebody's gotta explain that one to me. They're militantly anti-gay, which is the justification they use for their antics. That's not what ya call a left-wing position. They're not part of the usual "anti-war" crowd, they just hate gays and think that the war is God's punishment for tolerating them.

Proof that even the so-called "right" has its' share of nutbags, same as the left...

I would classify them as "left wing" due to the connections and history they have with Democratic Party political figures such as Gore. The "left wing" label has to do with their political connections and has nothing to do with their "religious affiliation" (not that they are affiliated with any mainstream religion or church anyway...).

As you pointed out, they defy rational explanation. However, to say the someone is "right" or "left" by virtue of their self-proclaimed religion shouldn't be done. For example, not all Christians are Republican - just because one claims to be a Christian does not automatically make them "conservative" politically and vice versa...

You are correct in stating that every political ideology has it's share of "nutters"... However, if you look at the money trail in this case it leads squarely into "left" territory.

Where the heck is the Southern Baptist Convention? They should be sending a couple of 'good ole boys' there to help this wingnut and his followers get right with the Lord.

Exactly. I have read enough about this group now to form an idea of what they are about. They are a small family group and not a "church" in the formal sense of the word. There are all those liberal political ties....Gore/Kerry. Add to that the totally weird stereotypical rantings that sound like what most liberals tend to think/believe about fundamental Christians, and you come up with a group that is trying to damage the image/credibility of the Christian Right. In other words they are trolls, not Christians.

Yes. One is a former hardcore pornographer with the improbable name of Bart McQueery who signed on with Phelps after he was getting attacked for his own one-man ministry in Tennessee - a ministry in which he used similar tactics to Phelps.

His other friend is a cofounder of the neo-Nazi cult called "Christian Identity." He joined Phelps because he believes Phelps is the white savior that some Identity cultists believe is coming.

I wasn't aware of a Gore connection. It seems odd that Gore would associate himself with people who are so far out of synch with the pro-gay liberal agenda.

Being chummy with this bunch of loonies would be political suicide for anybody, and especially for a Democrat. (Of course, political suicide isn't really an issue for Al. Ya can't commit suicide if you're already dead. Politically, that is.)

Evan Parker was all smiles and hard work, friends and family say

SOUTH HAVEN - The Rev. Michael Roberts says he can't get out of his mind the image of Evan Parker tearing up and down the streets of South Haven.

Roberts officiated at Sgt. Evan Parker's funeral Wednesday, attended by several hundred people in the South Haven High School gymnasium.

"His friends and family all remember him for his smiles," said Roberts, pastor of the South Haven United Methodist Church.

Parker's minister, former teachers, uncle and commanding officer eulogized him as a competitive athlete, a family man and hero.

Parker, 25, died Oct. 26 in Landstuhl, Germany, where he was flown after being wounded in a bombing attack in Iraq.

Going into the funeral, mourners walked past protesters who carried signs and screamed that soldiers are being killed overseas because God is punishing America.

The service also drew more than 150 American Legion Patriot Guard members, who used their motorcycles to screen the protesters from the mourners. Law enforcement officers from across the region also were on hand.

Inside the gymnasium, an American flag lay under Parker's head in the open casket. His Army fatigues were neatly folded at the foot of the casket. A table with his military medals, including his two Purple Hearts, was off to the side.

During the funeral, Parker's casket was closed and draped with a flag.

Parker was born in Wichita. He moved to South Haven in 1985 after his parents divorced. He graduated in 1998 from South Haven High School.

Parker joined the Army in 1999 and was discharged in 2003. His Army Reserve unit was activated last November and he was sent to Iraq this past spring.

Parker was divorced and had two young sons, Blake and Conner.

His former teachers praised his determination and grit.

"You only had to look at his eyes and you could see his heart," said John Showman, Parker's science teacher and basketball coach. "Every time, he'd give 150 percent of himself."

Showman said Parker never had to be pumped with enthusiasm at game time.

"I'd have to tell Evan to relax and slow down," he said. "I'd have to take him out of the game because he flat wore out and gave his all."

Lloyd Dunlap, Parker's uncle, spoke about a hometown boy who was quick to forgive.

Brig. Gen. Vern Miyagi called Parker a hero and a leader.

"He did his duty," said Miyagi, commander of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

A procession more than a mile long followed the funeral to Parker's burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery, near South Haven. As the procession passed through town, residents came out of their homes and stood watching as the cars slowly went by.

At the cemetery, law enforcement officers gathered around Parker's grave.

Parker was given a 21-gun salute and his family was presented a folded American flag.

American Legionnaire John Judd of Arkansas City watched silently as the services were completed.

"It's part of my duty and I'm here because I'm an American," Judd said.
