Three roommates were comparing their handguns in the drive-through of a fast-food restaurant Tuesday when one of the pistols accidentally discharged, killing a woman in the front seat. Police identified the victim as Teaira Richard, 19, 10769 Alco St., Apt. 3.
Nicole Latrise Daniels, 20, who listed the same address as Richard, was booked into Parish Prison on one count of negligent homicide. Bond was set at $40,000.
The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. at the Popeyes at 10706 Florida St.
Daniels was in the back seat looking at a pistol one of the other two roommates had just bought, police spokesman Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said. Another girl handed Daniels a second gun, and as she was looking at both of them, one accidentally discharged.
Richard, who sat in the front passenger seat, was struck in the upper back, McKneely said.
The third roommate, whom McKneely refused to identify, drove Richard to Earl K. Long Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
stuck on stupid ping
It fired because it was caused to fire.
Unless it was a cheap POS that malfunctioned. But I have to believe that the idiot wondered just how hard she could pull the trigger before it went off.
....nuff said
Doogle
The dead roommate drove? Got to love the quality of the writing.
She wanted to see if it would work even if she held it backwards.
End of story.
there is no accident on the part of the gun
It's a good thing I keep my guns locked in a steel safe. They're always accidentally firing on their own. Last night they went through seven boxes of ammunition. It sounded like a war zone in my closet. I just hope they don't figure out how to go fully automatic.
Doesn't matter if it was a cheap POS or not. The thing was kept LOADED!
Incorrect! You pathetic, hopolophobic headline writer...the gun didn't accidentally fire.Nicole Latrise Daniels negligently discharged a gun, killing the friend in the front seat.
Stupidity knows no bounds, apparently.
An unloaded gun ain't worth $#!t. Might as well throw rocks.
How does a gun "accidentally discharge"?
Kind of like a car "accidentally starting."
I love the way the gun is the "bad guy" in this story, not the mental midgets who were playing "gangsta rap queens" in a Popeye's drive-thru with loaded guns.
Definitely some Darwin Award nominees here.
hmm... three roomates all armed, with weapons at the ready in a drive-thru line?
bet they had something else in mind other than "comparing guns". one might say that they just migh have thwarted their own crime?
Let's fix that: When she pulled the trigger, the gun discharged.
Much better.
Of course, these people were idiots and not handling firearms in any kind of remotely sensible manner. That being said, it is my view that there is nothing more useless (or dangerous) than an UNLOADED gun.
I always get a kick out of the old Superman tv shows when the bad guy empties his pistol into Superman and then, when that fails, throws it at him. My guns stay loaded, but I keep them out of reach of children and stupid people. And I never put my finger on the trigger unless I intend to fire.
