I'm in a Chicago 'burb right now. Not returning to my west coast Florida abode till the hurricanes decide to stop coming up from the Caribbean like beads on a rosary.
Anyway, I go into this little sports store in the strip mall today. Nobody ever goes there except maybe on weekends. Today, the joint was loaded. Sox shirts, Sox hats, Sox patches, Sox jackets, Sox pajamas, Sox boxer shorts.....all being carted out the door like Katrina Night in downtown New Orleans.
I picked out this cool White Sox cap. Looked good on me. The kid said white on black was my color. I said "Wrap it up. By the way, how much?"
He said "$29.95".
I said, "You're kidding, pal."
He said, "Nope, $29.95 it is."
I said, "Wrap it up. You guys are really makin' out this week, right?"
He said, "You better believe it....this is better than owning a gas station right now."
The reason I was willingly extorted is because I'll wear it in Florida when I return. My neighborhood is full of transplanted NYC and New Joisey liberals who think the Yankees are the only team in the world.
If the White Sox win, I'll flauntingly wear this cap in front of them all......in the streets, on the beaches, in the Publix, in the mall.....and I'll even wear it to church on Sunday with my new black cleats with extra-long white laces.

Television ratings aren't just a function of the local markets. What the networks REALLY want to see is a World Series that attracts viewers all across the country. I don't think the advertisers are going to be thrilled if 100% of the population in the #3 and #10 markets watch the games but nobody else does. And quite frankly my dear, if it upsets the main stream media, so much the better.

Win or lose... when the World Series is over... both Chicago and Houston will burn! No we don't allow that crap here. Look at our NBA Championship years and we had zero trouble. A few arrests for drinking and that was it.

Further, I predict no riots tonight or when we win the World Series. Agreed. Texans don't put up with rioting. Conceal carry runs wide and deep.

I was a baseball mad little leaguer in Houston before they had a major league team. I remember how exciting it was to go to games in the old Colt Stadium (for you youngsters the Astros started life as the Houston Colt 45s. It was a temporary stadium but I loved it because you could wait for the players to come out of the locker rooms and actually interact with them. In addition to the Colts I got autographs from visiting hall-of-famers to be like Mays, Aaron, Koufax, McCovey, and Frank Robinson this way. When the Astrodome opened I was there for that first exhibition series against the Yankees and saw Mickey Mantle hit a towering home run. The Astrodome was such a novelty then it was known as the Eighth Wonder of the World and they used to offer guided tours of the stadium to tourists. My sister was in the first group of tour guides. I followed the early careers of Rusty Staub, Joe Morgan andf the toy cannon Jimmy Wynn. Although I moved out of Houston for good I followed the Astros for many years from afar having my heart broken in 1980 when they lost the greatest NLCS series ever to the Phillies. Miami has been home since 1988 and I've been lucky to see my Marlins win two WS. But here's a toast to my first home team, the Astros. Thanks for the memories and congratulations on your first world series. It's been almost a lifetime coming.
