It stops when there's no more taxpayer money to throw at it.
Yep. Between unemployment, Food Stamps, SSI payments and other amenities available to lower income individuals such as home heating credits and local charity contributions a good shyster can do pretty well for himself if so inclined - And it seems many are so inclined.
I totally agree.. I do okay.. not rich by a lot of peoples standards, but the amount of taxes I pay funds 3-4 people who are doing nothing. Taxes are, by far, my largest monthly expenditure.. It out does my mortgage, money I sock away for retirement.. food, education for my kids...
I was on welfare ONCE. This article is a lie. We rejoiced when Hubby got a job. There was no way to live on welfare and eat. It was a horrible experience.
If these are the people who are supposedly "losing their jobs" to illegal aliens, I can plainly see why an employer would look elsewhere.
And what is worse is these people like life this way. I'm not talking about just the money...but the absolute boredom a productive person would get when they have no challenge or work to do over a long period of time. On the other end, there are rich people who do nothing, but even most of the rich want some kind of challenge or work to do. Only in their case they are free to be more selective and can pursue personal passions better.
It stops as soon as we get a Republican majority.
Oh, wait...
Of course it does. If you get on welfare (free money), you can get free housing, free foodstamps, free medical, free water, free utilities.
The sad thing is that we probably paid a lot of taxpayers' money for this "study".
As a result, recipients are likely to choose welfare over work, increasing long-term dependence.
Big government has done nothing but breed dependency and complacency. After all, why work hard when the government will take care of your money, food and shelter?
And welfare PLUS drug dealing is even better yet.
Yep! I didn't look for a job 'til my unemployment ran out :o)
Then it was over 2 years 'til I found a job.
Got welfare relatives on both sides. Several that need to collect welfare but do not and one who refuses to work.
There's no answer that has a snowball's chance of becoming reality...
The study says that is from 1996. That is nearly ten years later, which is recent news to libertarian think tanks? LOL
In any case it is horrible stuff.
It stopped in Washington, DC, with the welfare reform act, in about 1998. This article is based on a report that is about seven years old.
This study came in in the 90's and it was one of the reason welfare reform got passed. This is not a cuurent study. Did you notice there was not a date on the link?
"Where, does it stop?" I can offer you two things:
1. Educate yourself on your local representatives from Dog Catcher on up. Vote the bleeding heart liberals out of office whenever and wherever you can.
2. Get and keep your own financial house in order. Learn all you can about your tax base and do all you can to lower it and keep more of YOUR money. Simple suggestions are:
*Work "off the grid" for cash when you can. Learn to barter with friends and family for goods and services that you need. Go through your household budget with a fine-toothed comb and cut out the fat. Use that money for tax-free investments, or to pay off debt, which frees you up for other options! Plant a garden. Learn basic life-skills that save you money in the long run. Read "The Tightwad Gazette" and every other money-saving book you can get your mitts on. Free up your cash to work for you, not against you! ;)
*Start a small home-based business of some type for the tax benefits.
*Take full advantage of your pre-tax dollars by contributing to an IRA or 401K plan through your employer or through yourself if your employer doesn't offer you one.
*Get out of debt to free up your money to make more tax-free money for you in the long run through said tax-dodging investments. Don't be afraid of itemizing your deductions. Get in the habit of saving receipts and seeing every expenditure as possibly being to your tax-advantage.
I've got a hundred perfectly legal ways to thwart the Tax Man. It's been my hobby for the past five years or so. The less of your money that's going to the government, the less you're supporting deadbeats and other social issues that are against your moral values. Most people are scared to death of taxes, but it just takes a little reading and understanding to do it yourself. If you don't want to go to the trouble, then find a tax adviser you can trust and do what s/he tells you to do with your hard earned cash.
Works for me. :) I send little of my money to Washington each year. And remember: A Tax Refund is just you giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan for the year. Why are you giving your hard-earned money away? Cut off the blood supply to the Cancerous Tumor of Government, I say! (LOL...sort of. I know I'm a lone voice in the wilderness.)
I think welfare should pay the equivalent of a $0.00 per hour job. That works for me.
