I'm not sure of that. I've heard of something called abandoning the field of play, or some words to that effect, when the batter just turns and walks away before the catcher can get a chance to tag him. I've never seen a catcher chase a guy to the dugout.
You're missing my point. I don't care if he caught it or not, if I have to go to that length to investigate, there's a good probability the ump could not see it.
You are too tired or something. THERE are special rules in play for a dropped third strike.

Note the part, anytime before he enters the bench. What part of that rule do you not understand?

Ahhhh.... And isn't that the point. What if he did YELL OUT really really loud and it came back that my evidence of pictures showed it may have hit the ground.
Would not all the white sox fans have an equal argument for the same reasons?
This was a judgement call, and the game continued and then the White Sox still stole second base, the catcher left the ball in his glove making an error IMHO, and then the pitcher throws a meatball over the middle when he has an 0-2 count.

Ump punched him out. Players began to leave the field, catcher rolled ball back to mound. Then batter goes to first, after crossing plate opposite way back to his dugout.

These things happen. Angels have to deal with it. Black Sox will be called the Black Sox and if they win their win will always be tainted and marred by this. This stunt may have got them one victory, but in the long run hurts them.

They don't chase to the dugout, they usually throw to first. The most common play is the catcher roles the ball out toward the mound. The batter truns and walks toward the dugout. His teammates from the dugout yell and gesture for him to run to first. He can do so unless he has entered the dugout.
Whether or not the ump missed the call, the angel catcher should have tagged him out ot thrown to first. If the ump yelled out then he should stand up on his hind legs and enforced the call. Have the angels said he called out. ASll I've seen is that they said he made a fist.
Huh? The catcher could simply throw the ball to first base....

And as a side note my point was wrong in this case, it didn't come in to effect here. Sonar pointed out the rule wherein before he becomes a runner the batter can go out of the baseline before he starts his move to first.
In the prss conference the angels said they did not hear the word OUT called by the umpire.

Make that 35 years and I would agree. The worst calls were in two footbal games between Penn State and Alabama a few years apart when an official clearly hosed Bama. One on a sideline call in the end zone and the other on an endline call.
On the call tonight, I think the ball hit the ground first; but it sure looked like the ump punched out the batter and on that basis, he was out. Still, the catcher should have tagged him out since it was a close play.
Personally, I thought the runner was safe at home on the two base error by Vlad.
