ST. LOUIS -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Monday accused the Bush administration of using Hurricane Katrina to reconstruct Louisiana politics, saying the U.S. had no plan to return displaced residents.
Jackson also criticized the government's awarding no-bid contracts to outside contractors importing out-of-state and foreign workers to rebuild New Orleans, while thousands of displaced former city residents are "languishing in 40 states" looking for work.
"There is no plan for massive rescue, relocation or return of residents," Jackson said in St. Louis, one stop along a route that a bus caravan of Katrina evacuees is taking to New Orleans to claim those jobs. The evacuees, escorted by Jackson's Chicago-based Operation PUSH, are due to arrive in New Orleans on Tuesday.

Chicago is next.
Somebody tell Jesse, now that Rove has the kinks ironed out of his hurricane machine, GW is going to change cities all over America.Since a hurricane formed in 73 degree water and headed for Portugal, the time to go after Chicago is NOW!
I thought Jesse was trying to remake La. politics.
Based on the performance of the Mayor of NO and the LA Governor, Louisiana politics NEED to be remade.
LOL Good one.
Cry me a river Jackson, you race baiting poverty pimp.
You must seek out the enemy and destroy him where he is.
In NOLA he is weak and vulnerable. If you give him several good licks while he is down, He might never get up.
The people who left there mostly did NOT own the real estate they lived on, so why would those who owned nothing want to go back and be again below sea level and exposed to trouble. Nope, they are going to stay out of the state.
What are they, displaced property? Is that what you think of them JJ? As property of Louisiana?
They are free people and they will not be "returned". They are free citizens of the United States of America and they are allowed to live anywhere they please.
Maybe Bush is after it SELF DESTRUCTED !!
Hey Jesse, Mr. Rainbow man just another shade of brown taking the NOLA jobs. The Illegals managed to get to NO without any government (or Jackson) help. Anyway they are only taking the $17/hr jobs Americans won't do.
Jesse, have your people live in cars and be on the street corner at 6:00 AM they'll find work. But I'm sure you'll demand government shelter, food and Medicare. By the time you get it the jobs will be gone.
Not according to the plantation masters.
Jesse's worried that there may be little need for a poverty-pimp race-hustler named Jesse Jackson in the NOLA of the future. Guess what, Jesse, you are a dinosaur, so go away!
Maybe these "displaced residents" figured out they are better off outside NO and LA. By the way did he ever bus all those people into NO to find them work?
"Jackson said he originally had expected to take 600 evacuees, but after talking to Nagin, reduced the number to 200. He said jobs and housing had been guaranteed for them."
Jesse couldn't find 600 'evacuees' who wanted to work, lol.
Absolutely fabulous post.
Jackson could not be more clear about what he REALLY thinks. You exposed him brilliantly.
why is it that these dumb asses feel that contractors should hire unskilled city residents to rebuild a city
Jesse's motto: "If its already broke, why fix it."
