OAKLAND -- Former U.S. Rep. Ron Dellums ended months of speculation today and announced he will run for election as Oakland mayor next year in a move that shakes up the race to succeed Jerry Brown.
Dellums' announcement came after months of urging by community activists, including a drive by independent volunteers who collected about 8,000 signatures begging the former congressman to run for office in his hometown. He credited that network with helping him make his decision.
Dellums, a 69-year-old former Marine, served 28 years in the House of Representatives before retiring in 1998.

Dellums gained notoriety as an unwavering opponent of the Vietnam War. In 1970, anti-war activists recruited Dellums to successfully run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Jeffery Cohelan, a liberal Democrat whose support for the war drew opponents in the district. In what may be the most liberal congressional district in the nation, he won 77 percent of the vote in 1996.

Ron 'Red' Dellums. And it has nothing to do with his coloring.

What a race! Ron "Red" Dellums vs. Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown. Whoever wins you can be sure of one thing: the town loses.

Actually, it is worse. He's running against Igacio De La Fuente! The one that requires that all city workers know Spanish (in a mostly black city), and his son is currently being held on rape charges (it might be murder too, but I'm not sure off the top of my head). Jerry Brown is termed limited out.

I thought Moonbeam is running for state office next year, either AG or Secretary of state, .
Dellums and Oakland deserve each other.

Scratched that, I'm not actually sure if he is term-limited out, but he is definately not running this time around.

Excellent observation.
Dellums speaks like a true Moon Bat racists.
I have a faint memory of some of his racists remarks against whitey.

Brown is running for AG against Fresno GOP'er Chuck Poochigian. Sorry to say, it will not be a close race.

The leftist America hating bastards have to make up their mind as to "who or what" they are.....
Is it Liberal?
Is it Progressive?
Is it Democrat?
I'd really like to see some truth in labeling, and have them properly identified as Socialists or Communists.
Damned leaches.

For those of you with
real long memories, you may remember that back in the House Bank scandal days, Red Ron wrote more bad checks than anyone else in the House.
Who wrote the second most? Why none other that California's gift to the nation, Barbara Boxer.

Ron Dellums also vowed to dismantle the CIA "brick by brick." He is one of those responsible for weakening our intelligence agency--ON PURPOSE.
He tried to deceive Congress about the "airport" in Greneda, and his list of staffers included Barbara Lee!

Dellums.....sounds like a name from "Lord of the Rings".

This breaks my Marine heart. He is a Marine in the Bobby Garwood model.

My initial reaction when I read this article in the morning birdcage liner (aka 'The SF Comical') was:
"Whassamatta, Marion Berry wasn't available???"
If he is elected, I really feel for the good people of Oakland. Red Dellums as mayor, Barbara Lee-natic in Congress, Di-Fi and Boxcar in the Senate. If I were them, I'd sue for "taxation without representation"!

Perfect symmetry. Dellums and Oakland deserve each other; suitable punishment for both.
