October 5, 2005 -- THE producer at the center of last year's "Memogate" scandal at CBS News says she was derailed by a vast right-wing conspiracy.
The producer, Mary Mapes, is one of four CBS staffers fired last January in the wake of the scandal.
She is convinced she was the victim of a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent" who pounced on CBS News minutes after the airing of the now-infamous Texas Air National Guard story on "60 Minutes 2" in September 2004...
"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...
"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."
"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.
"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

Nice tagline. Keep up the good work.
Perhaps I'd use it too, if I weren't such a Roman history fanatic.

Since this woman doesn't seem to know much about anything, I'll help her out. Here's what should have happened;
Mapes: "Mr. Burkett, we really need to see the originals to verify this story."
Bill Burkett: "I told you I had to burn them to protect the source...blah blah blah...I have no ax to grind against President Bush, no matter what your research says about my unsuccessfully suing him".
Mapes ( puzzled ): "Never heard you sued him. Really don't care about that part".
Burkett: The documents I gave CBS are the real thing. 100% grade A genuine. Trust me."
Mapes: "Goodbye".
On to your next story as this one stinks up the place. I guess you were asleep the day they taught journalism.

TRANSLATION: The MSM is trying to PROPAGANDA FreeRepublic.com as an "extremist" site so that way IN THE FUTURE when the NEXT reporter makes up/forges papers, the MSM can dismiss FreeRepublic.com as "extremist". They already tried that, but what they haven't realized yet is that the facts will get out now that they are no longer in control of the information.

Hey, Mary--it's the boogey man!

The barking moonbats at DUh are certain that it was Republican operatives who created the forgeries as a trap for the Rats.
Just as Louis Farrakhan thinks the conspiracy of 9-11 was that we (US) permitted the hijackers to take over those planes and crash them so that we could set off bombs inside the WTC and Pentagon to be able to wage war against muslims.
Must be the same VRWC that got Monica Lewinsky placed inside the White House as "bait" for Bubba.

"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."That's kind of like meeting someone for the first time at their high school graduation and thinking you had seen them born. You're quite the hard-core investigative journalist, Mapes.

So, she sets out to prove her innocence of politically motivated hogwash by claiming we're hyperconservative? It doesn't even occur to her that by making that claim, it shows what political field she sits in. She can't see the forest because she's a tree.
