XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE OCT 04, 2005 18:02:01 ET XXXXX
MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN
By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.
But she still felt something was missing in her life.
The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.
"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

You are ignoring the fact that she donated to the DNC five days before the 1988 Presidential election for the purpose of seeing the pro-abort Dukakis elected. Had nothing to do with Gore.
"Based on a couple sentences.
How has she ruled in the past?
Oh wait, she never has."
Neither had Rehnquist.
And it looks like you're ignoring the present:
Miers Found Christ, Turned Republican
By the way, that's an evangelical Christian. Dick Cheney, James Dobson, Jay Sekulo, Orin Hatch, Chuck Colson, American Center for Law and Justice would not endorse her if she was in love with Dukakis.
Even if everyone in Texas voted for Dukakis ( they didn't, Bush 41 actually carried Texas ), I'm sure there were a few Texans who didn't contribute to the DNC five days before the election.
Guess she's "experienced" in knowing the enemy. Churchill was like that, too. No, I do not wish to liken the office to which she has been nominated to that of Winston Churchill. Most people undergo philosophical sea change in life. Methinks Miers has had enough of that.
You keep focusing on 1988 and a check that was written. You need something to hang your opposition on.
Is Cheney a Christian?
Also, I thought Hatch was Mormon.
Actually it makes for a more profound contrast. She once was lost, but now she's found. I could give a rat's behind if she was once a radical liberal Democrat. But it matters a great deal if she understands the inherent moral turptitude involved with "safe, legal abortion." Guilt by association is a poor argument both logically and legally.
It was a smiley with a bucket of popcorn..
I've been Over Whelmed and busy the last few days, I sneak in and check FR when no one is looking...
I'll try to ping the list for a few days as things get back to normal here.
Sure is a wild ride with H. Miers. What do you think? You know about her, being from the same general area? Any secret knowledge the rest of us don't know?
I've never heard of her before this, This thread eases my mind a little. (just a little) We'll just have to wait and see.
Question, the dates given for contributions. Are they the date it was made or the date it was reported?
Not. See post 201.
Congress, my dear.
They share certain ethical attitudes that are consistent with Christian ethics though there are differences between them.
well, they're liberals, so they probably will!
I must if you have such a strong reaction to it.
Read the pages regarding the translation - it's in there. I have.
And promptly rid myself of it for a vintage New American Standard translation (hubby prefers Scofield).
yes, bush deserves none of the blame.
But all of the credit!
Amazing how that works.
I appreciate the correction. However, check out the title of this thread. Do you really think Cheney, James Dobson, etc., etc. would support a pro-abortion candidate?
> Bush is laying a trap designed to show just how intolerant the leftists are.
I'm beginning to believe exactly that.
Also, keep in mind, that in 1988 (in the pre-internet era), it was not as easy check the various voter ratings.
"I'm wasting my time talking to you. You're not a serious contender."
Aww, and in your poor judgement, you've already wasted so much time!
"Another hot button issue for the people who can't capitalize the name of our president"
Ah, okay, now failure to capitalize a name is a damning offense. But somehow you failed to capitalize "President".
