XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE OCT 04, 2005 18:02:01 ET XXXXX
MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN
By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.
But she still felt something was missing in her life.
The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.
"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

Oh really? You seem to have been quite anti-Bush in your postings well before this decision, so excuse me if I doubt the sincerity of your claim that this nomination was the straw that broke the camel's back.
One example:

Favoring those who have vowed to drive Israel into the sea, is 'hating Jews'. Bush is not a friend to Israel. That makes him a Jew hater.
That's quite a ridiculous claim, so I don't put much faith in your judgement. Your trashing of Condi Rice is also quite an overreach. A sample:

Bottom line Condi: You have listened too much to your Muslim friends, and your own Presbyterian theology. Israel is NOT an enemy of America. They are America's only friend in the other half of the world. No, your 'church' has NOT replaced Israel in the economy of G-d. You seem to have chosen sides, and it is the wrong one. Pick up your Bible and read Genesis chapters 12, 15, and 17. Curses are certainly available at bargain prices. I would suggest that you not buy. Sincerely, A Former Bush Supporter
Same is probably true in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. There was no Republican party to speak of. You had to vote for a conservative or liberal democrat or you wasted your vote.
"What exactly are they basing it on?"
Her writings.
"Has the bush administration given them some secret evidence of aunt harriet's (I'm using that because it ticks off the hyper sensitive) constitutional beliefs?"
Nope, I've looked at the available evidence, the stuff you insist on not looking at.
"I, on the other hand, prefer actual facts and evidence to base my positions on."
And, when offered that evidence, you spurned it.
You have made up your mind. No problem. I'm used to people being really stupid.
And who ever our leaders are we are told to pray for them.
And understand that God put them there.
"Sincerely, A Former Bush Supporter"
Oh, my! I didn't realize that this woman was a two-faced liar; she was trying to play as if she'd JUST decided to dump Bush today.
She would have to wait nine more years to donate to 'AlGore' for President??????
By the way, I once argued a case before William Rehnquist. I'm not exactly a guy who has a dusty copy of the Constitution.
My guess is that the Lord doesn't care about little things like that . . .
. . . John the Baptist got involved in political matters when criticising Herod's marriage ) --recall that Herod had hisfollowers, the Herodians, a very political group
.the Apostle Paul asserted his rights as a Roman citizen when unjustly condemned, also spoke of our responsibilities of citizens .
John, the Apostle was exiled to Patmos by one politician, Domitian but his exile was commuted by Trajan, another . . . One might even regard the Lord's harsh criticism of the Pharisees, Sadducess, and Herodians parties as dabbling in politicsas
On an unrelated issue, you might wish to reconsider the easy use of our Lord's name. This was a perrogative which His respectful disciples would not exercise (and yes it does matter). Sir Robert Anderson tried to correct this over-familiarity with his book, The Lord from Heaven
WRT the Wisdom that is eternal life this is absolutely true. Even from the standpoint of worldly wisdom, however, age is better than youth. Furthermore they're not called "elders" because of their youth. Lastly, the Scriptures speak against new converts becoming "elders." Age and experience are a good thing to have where Supreme Court Justices are concerned, just as it is with teachers in the Church at large.
"What exactly are they basing it on?"
The aforementioned people and group (ACLJ) were involved in the selection process. I guarantee they know her conservative judicial philosophy. How could she be head of the supreme court vetting process in George Bush's administration if she were secretly waiting to destroy the constitution? George Bush knows exactly that she is a social conservative who will not legislate from the bench.
"Last time I checked experience, like wisdom, comes with age"
No, experience comes actions. What you do, how long you do it, your depth of involvement. Age is just a chronological measure. Experience measure the depth of what you have done.
Who has more 'experience': A 60 year old business teacher that has taught business 101 in college for 30 years, or a 45 year old business owner who has started, run, and expanded a successful business for 20 years?
Which one would you pick to run a business if you had to hire one of them?
The one with the real world experience, or the 'older' one whose experience has been only in the abstract and not in the real world?
Exactly.
"I guarantee they know her conservative judicial philosophy."
how do you guarantee that?
Is that another area I'm supposed to just 'trust' someone on?
Flashbunny has already decided to hate President Bush and his nominee Miss Miers. Don't stand between someone and his/her doom ...
True Texas story:
A close older relative of mine gave up on the national Democrats after Adlai Stevenson lost. Hated Kennedy & Johnson, supported Nixon through Watergate, (but would vote for Democrats in local and state races because Republicans often put up weak candidates or none at all).
She never missed a election, because she was a Democratic Election Judge!
"Sorry, that's not the way it works. If you don't like the way your senator votes on the confirmation, then vote him or her out. But your opinion doesn't count, and I'm thankful that it doesn't because you're"
My, what a limited view of personal political power and responsibility you have.
So I imagine that if a bill comes up for consideration, you will never call your senator to get them to vote a certain way?
Any time the NRA puts out a bulletin saying "call your senator to support X", you'll just say "nope, that's not my job, I'll just wait and vote them out if they don't do what I like!"
Great philosphy there.
And I'm the one that's way out there?
All this thread needs is a tube of chapstick and a pair of kneepads.
"By the way, I once argued a case before William Rehnquist. "
Oh, great. Give me your address and I'll send you a cookie.

Ms. Rice is an anti-Semite. The 'theology' of her upbringing is among the most anti-Semitic in the U.S. Her mentor (Brent Scrowcroft) was among the most anti-Israel leaders in modern U.S. history. In short, you are giving Condi Rice too much credit. She does not care about Israel, and she surely was not trying to trap the Pali-terrorists and get them killed by Israel. There is no question that Sharon had this option in mind, but Ms. Rice is a friend to Pali-terrorists, and an enemy of Israel, and all those who love Israel, including yours-truly. I regret the day I voted for G.W. Bush.
So it appears that no matter who he might have nominated, you'd be trashing him and the nominee.
A final quote, for clarity, lest anyone jump to wrong conclusions:

I am a student of the history of Christianity, but I am not an admirer of Augustine, Ignatius, or Luther. I have particular disgust for such men because of their vitriol against all things Jewish. Their wild abandon of the Hebrew Scriptures led to their disloyalty, and shameful repudiation of the family of the Messiah they CLAIMED to follow. BTW, I am not Jewish.
I love that show--the little I've seen of it. Yes, Jerri is trying to turn her life around as well. LOL!
This nominee had more "experience" in legal matters at the age of 30 than most layers have at age 50. A Supreme Court nominee certainly needs that experience. But they also need to general wisdom that comes from growing older and seeing life in all its facets. They should be seasoned to the extent they are disclined toward philosophical flip-flops like a younger Gore. This is not an office for a young buck with an axe to grind on our behalf.
