XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE OCT 04, 2005 18:02:01 ET XXXXX
MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN
By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.
But she still felt something was missing in her life.
The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.
"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

If Gore was Pro-Life, why was he casting Pro Abortion votes as early as 1985?
you are both wrong
Psalm 111:9-10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.
This woman fears the lord.
I'd encourage you to do the same.
Advise and consent.
Like it or not, the 17th amendment made senators elected directly by the people. And as a result, they are subject to the wishes of the electorate.
They'd still be if it was done the old fashioned way, but in a much less direct manner.
Also, the phrase 'consent of the governed' might ring a bell to you.
I'm so right, I make Ann Coulter look like a liberal.
Meeee toooo ! And I think they have. I'm sensing Miers could be a stealth Roe vote, loves guns, and understands business. Additionally W really, really, REALLY knows this woman. No Souter situation here. And she's 60, so there will be no "growing" on the bench.
thanks.
Where can I find that in the bill of rights?
You can use the caps key. Yet you refuse to do so when referring to our President. Can't even engage in that bit of respect for our President, can you?
G. W. Bush ... a man Demoncrats have consistently underestimated, over and over.
Initially, when I heard of this pick, I thought to myself, 'this is so unlike him'.
Now, if the actual true blue Born Again woman is the real McCoy ... ohhhhhh baby. Talk about win win. If the demoncrats attack, if they howl, if the shoot her down b/c of her faith, why, what better way to galvanize the base. If RINOS shoot her down, what better way to slaughter them during the next round of primaries...
And if she is confirmed, He kept his promise to the base.
Either way, this is the man, again, I voted for .... it is Karen Hughes, not Rove, whose fingers are all over this.
Thanks Karen.
Actually, you signing up today and expecting us to accept your word is America's worst nightmare.
I may never get over it.
By and large not bad under the circumstances, and he isn't finished. This nomination did not take place with only immigration issues in mind. Nor did it take place with only the economy in mind. We all know SCOTUS is a big fish to fry. It would be inane to dismiss this nomination out of hand. As far as originalist interpretations and applications go, this nominee is probably more qualified than we realize.
"Where can I find that in the bill of rights?"
The founders had a much deeper respect for the source of Christian thought than it seems you do.
True. Another irrefutable point is that any hard core conservative nominee would get filibusered. By our own RINO's. Period. Either you believe President Bush nominated a baby shredding lawyer friend, or you don't. Frankly, Bush isn't all I wanted, but I can't find it in my heart to believe he just threw the babies, the 2nd Amendment and his legacy out the window........
They're not. Guess you don't live here.
What exactly are they basing it on?
Has the bush administration given them some secret evidence of aunt harriet's (I'm using that because it ticks off the hyper sensitive) constitutional beliefs?
If so, why has he given that same evidnece to the rest of the country?
There are some organizations who will support any republican supreme court nominee, and there are others who will condemn them just the same.
I, on the other hand, prefer actual facts and evidence to base my positions on. Must be the cold hearted realist in me. If only I could click my heels and be and kansas!
The argument was the source of wisdom, was it not?
Last time I checked experience, like wisdom, comes with age. I don't want someone dealing with mid-life crises or menopause on that bench. I want someone who's already seasoned, mellowed (as needed), then hardened in their convictions. You don't see too many sixty-year-olds mellow or change. Old dogs and all that.
