MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN

By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.

But she still felt something was missing in her life.

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.

"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

If this nominee is intent upon turning the USA into a theocracy

I believe you can rest easy. It is bound to stay an atheocracy. Atheists are too powerful and have a death grip on the American jugular.

people who have a knowlege of God, but don't "know"

Rom 1:21 Because when they knew and recognized Him as God, they did not honor and glorify Him as God or give Him thanks. But instead they became futile and godless in their thinking [with vain imaginings, foolish reasoning, and stupid speculations] and their senseless minds were darkened.

All people at one time knew God but turned away from Him. I believe that is why you saw their actions as "demonic" because they know deep down in their hearts God does exist and they want to bury Him deep. You won't get this kind of reaction out of somebody who has been able to.

John kerry calimed to be a christian, too.

What kind of supreme court justice would he make?

I judge people based on the actions they take, not the labels they choose.

I'd like to have a nominee that is something more than a crapshoot.

It may seem like a crap shoot to you, but it is far from it. The fact that GWB made a decision unlike common lines of thought tells me that he is not operating out of fear, politics, or ulterior motives, but with informed judgment as to what is best for our country at this time in our history.

I didn't see Jay Sekulo, James Dobson, Chuck Colson, American Center for Law & Justice, and Orin Hatch endorse John Kerry; did you?

"you people" was used becuase Rush says it, people hate it, and it amuses me. Your reaction sort of illustrates why I used it.

Aunt harriet - well, Mark Belling was talking today about the only two known harriets in the last hundred years, and he struck upon either harriet nelson (of ozzY and harriet fame) or aunt harriet from batman. He decided, and I agree, that 'aunt harriet' is the best nickname.

It's called a sense of humor. You might want to invest in one some day.

Would have been easier just to nominate someone whose real beliefs are there for all to see. But instead we see the result of 'strategery'.

Exactly. Bush has now single-handedly suceeded in ticking off most of us who stuck with him through his squishy compassionate conservatism and his big governement expansion - all because he would give us another Thomas or Scalia. Instead, he has encouraged us to walk away from him. No amount of "trust me" will work, when you continue to do untrustworthy things. A true conservative would not have grown the size and expense of government like this monetary drunk has. He had his chance. He blew it.

"with informed judgment as to what is best for our country at this time in our history."

So, is his informed judgement on how he's handling our border security and illegal immigration crisis what's best for our country at this point in history?

The problems don't happen when you question your leaders, the problems happen when you fail to question them. Blind acceptance of a political leader is just as bad as the left blindly condeming everything Bush does.

So what took Miers so long?

Maybe she thought the void she was feeling could be filled by her professional life? How long is so long? It took me into my 30's.

"I didn't see Jay Sekulo, James Dobson, Chuck Colson, American Center for Law & Justice, and Orin Hatch endorse John Kerry; did you?"

And I don't see religious affiliation being more important the constitutional philosphy when it comes to a lifetime appointment on the supreme court.

Which matters more: What a religious leader says about the religous nature of a candidate, or how that candidate will rule when it comes to the constitution?

The libs will filibuster and the doom and gloom "conservatives" will be eating crow.......

Yeah right. An irrefutable conservative point is that there are more qualified individuals for the lifetime appointment, and there are. She is a stealth nominee, if you go for that sort of thing. But don't count your crow-eaters before they hatch.

another problem, miers is too damn old

No. Wisdom comes with age. A jurist too young will morph unpredictably. If anything 60 years old ought to be the minimum age to hold the office. I just love how everything about GWB's choice pisses everyone off because he steps outside of conventional wisdom. That's what happens when a man is able to see the bigger picture and act out of wisdom instead of emotion.

"No. Wisdom comes with age."

Wrong again.

Wisdom comes with experience.

When GHWB acted like a RINO, he gave us clinton.

When ford was a RINO, he gave us carter.

Exactly right! And GW Bush acting like a RINO will give us Clinton 43.

George "Read My Lips" Bush gave us Clinton 41.
George "I will nominate like Scalia/Thomas" Bush will give us Clinton 43.

What is sad about it all is that he is probably sitting in the White House right now scratching his head and asking himself "Why is everyone upset?

A true conservative would know the answer to that question: FORTY YEARS of judicial tyranny - that's WHY!

If you reveal that you're a senator, I'll retract my statement.

Otherwise, if you somehow believe that a Supreme Court Justice should be the equivalent of an elected official, I urge you to dust off your copy of the Constititution.

Trust GW is all we really need to do.
I just read a book about the upbrings of presidents; it said that in the Bush family the sons traditionally are competitive with their fathers. GHW Bush's father was rich and lived in Connecticut, but GWB went to public school in Midland because GHWB had not made it on his own. When he did, they moved to Houston.

So when GWB started out, he moved away from Houston to Midland. And Jeb moved to Florida, becoming a millionare on his own before George did even though he was seven years younger. The code of the Bush clan is that the sons start out on their own (getting help from anyone other than Dad is OK), and they don't communicate that much between father and son. Jeb ran for Governor of FL at the same time GWB ran for Governor of TX, and would have been in line to challenge in '00 if Lawton Chiles hadn't beaten him with a dishonest, under-the-radar push-poll campaign. I guess we can say that things could really have gotten interesting if Jeb had won that campaign and been a six-year incumbent governor in '00 just like George.

But the point is that GWB is competitive with his father and, having promised to name justices like Scalia or Thomas, he isn't interested in coming up with any Justice Souters in his resume. Reagan had O'Connor and Kennedy to answer for, too. I don't think that will happen to George W. Bush. It's a way for him to outshine even the Gipper, and I don't think he'll blow it.

Are you actually suggesting that the viewpoint of a major- conservative-legal institution (ACLJ) that fights liberalism everyday in the courts means nothing? I think you've crossed over the bridge of cynicism.

The RATS worst nightmare. They will have to Bork her based on her faith.

Remember Reid already said she is qualified.
