MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN

By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.

But she still felt something was missing in her life.

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.

"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

another problem, miers is too damn old.

GWB should not be nominating anyone 60 years old. 50 years old should be the top. Ten more years on the bench.

Well, praaaaaaaise the Lawd. This certainly puts all of MY worries to rest.

What's that? Being a born-again Christian isn't a qualification for the Supreme Court?

Darn. Guess we'll have to keep looking for one.

Guess I just haven't been around here long enough, but I do notice that what Drudge says is always considered by some as trash journalism except when he posts something they want to hear, then it's as if the almighty himself said it.

" Miers became an evangelical Christian..."

That may be a reason for the Libs to filibuster her.

LOL, I was getting a kick out of the dueling graphics. The chicken is a little silly but the first two were great. :)

As I've said before on another thread: We shouldn't be ruling in candidates based on their religion - because this justifies our advisaries ruling out our candidates based on their religion.

We need people who have stated written legal opinions in the past. This doesn't mean they have to come from the judiciary - but a solid paper trail is needed, lest we get another Goddamned Souter (spit).

Maybe I phrased my comments the wrong way. Although I'm a Catholic, I have a number of Evangelical friends and have worked closely with them on a number of matters.

But I would not think someone was a good SCOTUS choice because they were Evangelical any more than I would think they were a good SCOTUS choice because they were Catholic. Teddy Kennedy is a Catholic. John Kerry is a Catholic. They are not good Catholics, IMHO. Jimmy Carter is an Evangelical. Bill clinton, when it suits him, is an Evangelical. They are not good Evangelicals, IMHO.

You can go on and on. Lucky Luciano was a Catholic. Jimmy Swaggart was an Evangelical. In other words, Miers being an Evangelical is not enough in itself for us to form an opinion.

So instead of waiting another month or two, you will settle for an unknown quantity getting a lifetime appointment to the supreme court.

She's certainly not an unknown quantity to President Bush. There's nothing in the Constitution that indicates she needs your seal of approval.

Did you know that Senate hearings where the nominee is questioned is a relatively new practice?

That's the way it happened to me, too. I was a Carter-loving Democrat in the 70's ... I accepted Christ ... and shortly afterwords I became a Republican.

Females live on average about 7 years longer than men. This makes her equivalent to a 52 year old man.

Ah.. it looks like the New York Times is nosing the bait and about to bite hard.

Those of you spoiling for a fight just might get your wish. "Born-again Evangelical Christian" is not going to go down well with the Dummies. Not well at all.

Ooooh.... the Demagogues will be in meltdown mode over this!

Not only is she not worshipping at the altar of Lawrence Tribe and Harvard liberal jurisprudence, she lives a life of beliefs that the Demagogues can't even imagine anymore....

Old "what's his name" (the 3rd Bush nomination) is 88. 28 years if she lives to a ripe old age.....fer crying out loud.

Only on FR would you have people who could remember a TV show like that. How about Captain Nice? Or Run, Buddy, Run?
