MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN

By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.

But she still felt something was missing in her life.

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.

"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE. THE DU IS PASSING OUT KOOL-AID AFTER READING THIS ONE.

BUAHAHAHAHAHA!

For those keeping score:

  1. The Miers nomination was timed to take De Lay off the front pages
  2. The De Lay indictment was timed (by Rove) to take Hurricane Katrina off the front pages
  3. Katrina was manufactured (by the CIA) to knock Cindy Sh*thead off the front pages
  4. Cindy Sh*thead was sensationalized (Rove, again) to knock the Plame affair off the front pages
  5. The Plame affair was done specifically to knock the TANG memo (not real, but true) off the air.

Did I miss anything? </tinfoil hat>

What we need is an originalist - no matter how many times he or she has been born.

You're missing the point. I don't give a crap whether she's Evangelical, Catholic or Buddhist....as long as she doesn't approve of shredding babies, keeps her hands off my weapons and can read the Constitution, she's qualified and to the right of O'Connor.

"Females live on average about 7 years longer than men. This makes her equivalent to a 52 year old man. "

And there are plenty of good, proven jurists available that are a decade or more younger. For instance, Diane sykes is 47 years old, IIRC, which would make her the equivalent to a 40 year old man.

I'd take a more qualified 60 year old over a lesser qualified 47 year old.

I know what you're trying to say and I agree with most of your points referencing her qualifications versus more qualified candidates, but a "healthy" 47 year old could be a very unhealthy 50 year old in a three short years. It happens all the time.

"If you'll wait a couple of days, I'm sure that information will emerge"

But again, based on what?

More hearsay?

And in the past day it's been inconsistent "well, she did that so it means she'd be good, but she did that which is bad, but it shouldn't be counted, uh, because we said so".

The one easier for these folks to read.

Do you think the other versions read differently ? If you do you are ignorant of both the words and the sense of the bible and authority.

Do the nations have authority that is not subject to Jesus?

You don't have to settle for a crapshoot, but the Republican voters already have - they keep voting in the same Republicans to Congress, so there will never be a reformation of the Republic or a reining in of the Judiciary.
That said - youre complaint is a symptom of the larger problem. You're taking it out on the wrong person.
And for the record? Congress spends the money. Blame the expansion on them.
Start taking the incumbents out in the primary, and you'll get your fight for a Janice Rogers-Brown.

"I'd take a more qualified 60 year old over a lesser qualified 47 year old."

I'd take a more qualified 47 year old over a lesser qualified 60 year old.

And a 47 year old with a track record of rulings behind her.

Algore once had true potential. And remember Tipper took on Big Music re obscene lyrics and even wrote a book about such. Only after he decided to run for pres, did he become pro-choice and claim he always had been AND he dragged poor Tipper out to Hollywood to "apologize" for her campaign against them. Even so, after losing the nomination he did honorably raise the funds to pay off his debts, unlike John Glenn who never did so. Then he went totally insane and wrote his crazy book, took up with Clinton and descended into Heck.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I know several scholars who were on the translation committee. Again, you have no idea what you are talking about.

O.K. ... our trick worked on the Liberals. They think we Conservatives are upset with the President's pick for Supreme Court. We can start supporting her now.

"My guess is Jesus doesn't care much for our politics."

Coulda fooled me, most days on FR.

I usually get the impression on FR that there is only one way to Jesus' heaven: ...being a "true" conservative.

No deviations whatsoever will be permitted.

"And for the record? Congress spends the money. Blame the expansion on them. "

Not bush for not vetoing a single bill?

Not bush for letting ted kennedy write the education bill?

Not bush for promoting the horrible medicare drug program?

Not bush for signing a transportation bill bigger than the amount at which he said he'd veto it?

That's the real problem: Some people want to give bush all the credit, but insulate him from any of the blame.

When he does good, he deserves praise. When he does wrong, it necessary to register disapproval. Otherwise you will just get more of the same.

Okay, so if Diane Sykes were 60, you'd be okay with her? I know I would. That's the point I'm making.

" . . . He promised more judges like thomas and scalia,"

And he's delivered!

BTW: The following is what unappeasable conservatives like youself had to say about CLARENCE THOMAS when he was nominated:

" . . . On the basis of what is known, there is every reason to believe that Judge Thomas will live up to his promise. Truth be told, however, his public record on issues other than civil rights is still more Souteresque than Borkian" . . . Sound familiar?!

What we need is an originalist - no matter how many times he or she has been born.

Good news, she appears likely to be an originalist!

Based on:

1) President Bush nominating of her, his prior statements of what he was looking for in a nominee, and his statements on why he chose her.

2) Interviews with her cohorts in Texas, including TX Supreme Court Judge Nathan Hecht.

3) All the excellent lower court nominees that President Bush has nominated, all of whom had to pass muster with the gatekeeper Miers. If she chose them to recommend to Pres. Bush, doesn't that probably give insight into her philosophy? If her philosophy were different but she did so just to meet Pres. Bush's wishes, why would he have put her in charge of such an important task in the first place?

Three solid indicators that she is likely an originalist, though of course it isn't definitive proof. What similar indicators do you have (if any) to suggest that she isn't an originalist?

she'd be a better candidate, but if there was an equivalent pick at 47, I'd prefer the younger one.

All things being equal, the younger candidate has 13 more years they could serve on the bench.
