(Hartford-AP, Sept. 29, 2005 6:02 AM) _ A state group that wants stricter immigration controls is calling for an investigation of whether McDonald's hires a high percentage of Hispanics.
But state officials and immigration activists are questioning the study that the group is using to bolster its claim.
Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control yesterday released what co-founder Paul Streitz is calling a study of the ethnic makeup of the workforce at 152 McDonald's.
He claims that workers at McDonalds in New Haven and Fairfield counties are nearly 100 percent Hispanic. He says that raises the possibility that equal opportunity laws are being violated and undocumented workers are being hired.
But activists say his research methods were unsound and motivated by racism. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has rejected Streitz's call for an investigation, saying the study is not reliable or relevant.
The pendulum swings, and hypocritical equal opportunity laws are challenged as racist.
First I would wonder what the make up of the surrounding community is.
In Connecticut, who else would want to work in a McDonald's?
In downtown Minneapolis, McDonald's restaurants are usually 60-75% Hispanic.
Their English skills suck too.
And we complain when our orders are all FUBAR.

I had a shock the other day -- I walked into a McDonalds and saw a caucasian working behind the counter!! I should have had my camera.
At the drive through speaker, "I SAID I WANT A BIG MAC. DO YOU NOT KNOW WHERE YOU ARE WORKING?"
Honest - this happened to me. I went to a drive-by, placed my order, the girl told me my total, asked me to drive around, at the window, took my money, gave me change, then asked me, "Now, what was it you ordered?" I said, "You mean you took my money, gave me change, and don't know what you charged me for?" She replied, "Well, if it's wrong, we can change it."
Total corporate fools allow such idiots to greet their customers. Those belong hidden behind a mop.
all fast food places I see have 100% mexican workers in them. They all bring their relatives in to work. Many years ago, I worked for Bob's big boy rest. A busboy went to his home country and sent in his cousin to work in his place. The manager asked, 'who are you?' and sent the kid home. This is how the INFORMAL EMPLOYMENT works.
White, black, hispanic, Asian, other...McDonalds isn't drawing the cream of the crop.
Husband and I found a wonderful African American lady at the drive through. She was so friendly and helpful. We weren't surprised a few weeks later to see she left McDonald's quickly. We bet she received a job offer on the spot from someone who noticed her people skills and snatched her up. She was too good for McDonalds.

These statistics are from the CT Dept of Education. Not that you can trust them, but they look about right to me as a CT resident.

Asian 2.7%
American Indian 0.3%
Webster referrs to them as "McJobs"; says its a low paying job with little or no benefits and little or no chance of promotion.
Promotion at McDonalds equals moving from the bun-warmer to the deep-fryer.
Correction of myself - a promotion at McDonalds is closing the door behind you in pursuit of an opportunity.
