To finish my thought: If the influx of new people had been associated with a deterioration of the neighborhood, e.g., increased crime rate, I would be alarmed, but I haven't seen any evidence of that. I still don't lock my car at night, or even my house most of the time.

He claims that workers at McDonalds in New Haven and Fairfield counties are nearly 100 percent Hispanic. He says that raises the possibility that equal opportunity laws are being violated and undocumented workers are being hired.

Too funny. Equal opportunity coming back to bite them.

New Haven Connecticut? Welcome to the new America!

You'll just love it!

What would Blumenthal (CT-AG) do if the study revealed that only whites were working at McDonald's, I wonder?

Twelve years ago, my neighborhood was about where yours is now. Looks like all those Californians who fled to WA State to escape the invasion are going to have to move again.

Only the foolish left Cal to go to places like New Haven Connecticut, or Washington, or anywhere else for that matter. Their homes doubled and tripled in value and now they are faced with the same illegal aliens, plus frigged, icy winters.

Ouch!

He'd try and throw the CEO of McDonalds in jail. That would be front page stuff.

"Their homes doubled and tripled in value and now they are faced with the same illegal aliens, plus frigged, icy winters."

Our winters in seattle aren't particularly frigid or icy; snow is uncommon, and rarely lasts more than a day or two. Rainy, yes, but frigid, no. But it's great for people who find hot weather oppressive; summer temps are mostly in the 70s and low 80s rather than the 90s or 100s.

Many others as well.

Many mistakenly don't draw that distinction. Those of the latter to whom you refer are Americans.

I'm in So. Cal. We don't have oppressive hot summers or humidity. Where I live I think it broke 100 twice this summer. Can't beat that. Only had to run our AC 4 times all summer. Living near the coast has it's advantages in this region. I note by your name you're in Seattle. Been there. Nice looking town, but it can rain for months on end. And inland it can be friged and icy cold.

I just walked up to the MD's 1/4 mile from my shop here in Bridgeport (Bridgepuertorico...as the local hispanics call it).

Not one EEEnglish speaking person employed there. You have to be careful when you order there....if you make a corrction, you usually wind up with both items in your Mcbaggie.

LOL....anything but the "order by number menue's" confuses the heck out of the hired help.

LOL

A private company SHOULD BE able to hire anybody they want, despite the asinine laws that have been past to the contrary. I'm siding with the Mickey-D's franchiser on this. What next? Going after all the Indians who own Dunkin' Donuts in the New York area for just hiring their cousins to work the store?

Besides, I'm with Carlos Mencia: If you are a native born American who was educated in this country yet still work at Mickey-D's as an ADULT, YOU ARE A (fill in polticially incorrect expletive related to intelligence).

Doesn't look like the influx of illegals has affected property values. Housing in California and Northern Virginia is, along with the NYC area, the most expensive in America. Meanwhile, you can live with a bunch of white folk in West Virginia or Alabama, but don't expect your house to appreciate much.

Strange, I always thought of Connecticut as apple pie, a picture post card, country scene. (It's one of the few places I haven't been to).

The Fed gov sure has done a number on this country.

Steve, if you are in Bellevue or the South Suburbs, the reason is the boom in home construction and landscaping jobs in the area. That and the fact that low interest rates have driven natives out of the rentals, causing landlords to seek renters from the illegals.

There ain't any illegals here in Belltown, except for the laborers who are driven here from Bellevue, Redmond, Burien, and Renton to hang under the Alaska Way Viaduct looking for work or ganja.

Remember that there is considerable disparity in income between the whites in Fairfield (second wealthiest county in America) and New Haven counties, and the blacks and hispanics who live there. You're not going to get some white person from Darien, Greenwich or New Canaan to work in the fast food restaurants there. That leaves the blacks and the Hispanics. A little anecdote: I have been told several times by Greek restauranters and Korean grocery owners that they hire the Latinos because "they don't give us attitude and don't lift from the register" (exact quote from a Greek diner owner in Brooklyn).

You've obviously spent much time in Connecticut. The Puerto Ricans and blacks from the south poured into Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford and other industrial hellholes just as the factories were closing. Those areas have been among the poorest in the northeast since the 1950s.

Besides, the wealthy white folks in Fairfield County need folks to mow their lawns, look after the children, etc. That's just the way it is.

I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that the local white kids have been raised to think that such a menial job is beneath them. Also we've become pretty lazy as a nation and don't expect our kids to work.

Since all of this seems to take place as a result of personal choices that people make, I'm not sure it's a matter for the law or for equal employment opportunity watchdogs.

If Whites were to do this, it would be called Racism.

I went to high school in an affluent community and even though I worked (at a movie theatre and then a video store), it amazed me how many of my classmates just didn't work and, as a result, didn't have much of a work ethic when they hit "the real world." I must admit, however, that even I considered Mickey D's to be "Haitian work" as that's who dominated the local fast food work force in my community at the time.
