Cooing at new-born babies banned
A West Yorkshire hospital has banned visitors from cooing at new-born babies over fears their human rights are being breached and to reduce infection.
A statement from Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax said staff had held an advice session to highlight the need for respect and dignity for patients.
On one ward there is a doll featuring the message: "What makes you think I want to be looked at?"
But Labour MP Linda Riordan said the measures were "bureaucracy gone mad".

One cannot look at babies in hospitals in the US either. Privacy issues under HIPPA. Some hospitals turn the carts so names are not shown.

That's true; My last delivery, the nursery was vault-like. No windows, one door, and no parents allowed. We had to sign our daughter out, get a receipt when we brought her back, and she wore an alarm around her ankle to make sure no one took her out of the ward.
Was there an epidemic of baby stealing that I missed?

'Infection control' "We often get visitors wandering over to peer into cots but people sometimes touch or talk about the baby like they would if they were examining tins in a supermarket and that should not happen." Here in the USA the babies are kept in the newborn nursey behind glass, people are not allowed to walk through the newborns area. Are newborns in the UK just thrown out in the hospital aisles?
