Steve Carell Hosts "SNL" Premiere ( an "up yours" to Conservatives, musical guest Kayne West )

I've heard a lot of comparisons between Ben Stiller and Steve Carell lately, and it's not just because the two have shared screen time in blockbusters such as "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and are connected in the Frat Pack through his many associations with Will Ferrell. Bottom line: The guy is everywhere these days.
Fresh of the box office boom of "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," MSNBC says that Carell will host the premiere of "Saturday Night Live" next weekend. The show also has another recent headliner attached -- Kanye West will serve as the musical guest.
The 31st season of "Saturday Night Live" kicks off Saturday, October 1 at 11:30 p.m. (EST) on NBC. -- Rachel Cericola

Wasn't sure if this was news or not. One thing's for certain is that booking Kayne West now was no coincidence.
As someone who has watched from day one, i've only hung around the last few seasons to see if it would get better. It hasn't and now appears it won't ever. Now they've declared themselves 100% fully in bed with the left, something I saw coming but hoped didn't.
I wish them luck after kissing off long time viewers like me, they'll need it.

It's all about the buzz it generates. SNL has done it's share of poking fun at Liberals. What ever is in fashion, they concede, add some shock factor for a spike in water cooler chat, etc.

Saturday Night Live is trash. The show ceased to be any good about 5 years ago.

Yeah with Tina "I'm a closet commie" Faye as head writer for the show. I am sure that it was no problem to convince loren michaels to book kanye west... and mark my words... He will make more rhetorical hate filled comments. SNL is hoping for a huge ratings boost from this.
On a side note SNL has not had a good show or line up in about 8 years.
Mad TV on Fox is doing what SNL used to do, they are making a lot of social commentary, but do not throw and agenda behind it. If you notice most of the skits on SNL on any given episode over half deal with either homosexuality or bashing conservatives or conservative beliefs... they have allowed it to become a propaganda show for the left.
just my opinion though.

Saturday Nite Live will never again have such great Frank Sinatra imitators as Joe Piscopo and Phil Hartman. I doubt their audience today even knows or cares about Sinatra. Once great show had a marijuana addled Paul McCartney (Dana Carvey) meeting Frank Sinatra (Phil Hartman)

Haven't watched SNL in 10 years since MadTV came on. MadTV is much funnier than SNL and more in line with the SNL of the late 70's early 80's.AWB

What ever is in fashion, they concede, add some shock factor for a spike in water cooler chat, etc. ehhh... not really, different type of humor applied to liberals they attack. For example, when they make of Clinton they try and make him look like a stud, yea sleazy but still hip and funny to young people. When they make make fun of GWB they say he's dumb or whatever. I'd say it's a little different...

This is non-news of any sort. No one watches SNL...I don't think many liberals even watch SNL...it just isn't funny and hasn't been in over a decade.

The best stuff that comes from SNL is the classic stuff. The local NBC affiliate shows the classic SNL from the early years around 2 or 3 in the morning, and they show a couple episodes of SCTV along with it.

Don't think of the booking of West as an "up yours"; the guy did have the number one CD in the country last week. He won a Grammy earlier this year. Only in recent weeks has he revealed to the hip-hop illiterate public what an idiot he is, and in doing so to the detriment of Bush, hasn't made any significant enemies in showbiz. After all, NBC is putting him on the air live again.
As stupid as it was, I don't think West's disjointed rant was more offensive than Sinead O'Connor's defining moment of presenting a photo of Pope John Paul II to the SNL cameras and ripping it to shreds.

Actually she has claimed numerous times that she is apolitical , but if you ever watch weekend update on SNL that shoots it right out the window.. plus I could not resist the slam. :)

SNL has done it's share of poking fun at Liberals Yes but that quality has almost been completely purged from the show. It's not you have to take the good with the bad anymore, it's all taking bad with the worse these days.
Even when poking fun at the right, they used to have some high standards. From early on with Dan Ackroyd's Nixon to later with Dana Carvey's Bush 41 impressions, they always used great humor and wit to present their jokes.
Now they deliver the modern standard leftist "Bush sucks, aren't I cute and witty for saying that?" No. You aren't.

One of my most memorable moments was when John Belushi was the musical guest, and he sang the song With A Little Help From My Friends and during the climax of the song, he was flopping around on the stage like a fish out of water pouring beer all over himself.

I disagree... Kanye West made comments that could have ignited racial tension here and cause further divides in race relation s his comments were irresponsible and dangerous...
While I disagree with what Skinhead O'conner did I do not think it rises to the same level as making inflammatory comments on race, while the MSM is stoke the fire as well.
I honestly think that Both the MSM and Kanye West.. Separately, were trying to achieve agitation in hopes that there would be protesting and rioting.

Well stereotypes are rooted in popular perceptions. When you think Bubba Clinton you think "sleaze" his wife as a cold hearted "b-tch." Gore was typecast as "S..L..O..W" and of course our President isn't very eloquent on the spot...
