SNL has done it's share of poking fun at Liberals Yes but that quality has almost been completely purged from the show. It's not you have to take the good with the bad anymore, it's all taking bad with the worse these days.
Even when poking fun at the right, they used to have some high standards. From early on with Dan Ackroyd's Nixon to later with Dana Carvey's Bush 41 impressions, they always used great humor and wit to present their jokes.
Now they deliver the modern standard leftist "Bush sucks, aren't I cute and witty for saying that?" No. You aren't.

Granted I haven't seen the show in years, and I'm not defending there failing (I think) ratings, but it has been a GOP govt for five years. The war isn't popular in the celeb circles they pander to.
Regarding intellectual comedy, it correlates to the viewers. You are intelligent, so you just don't get stupid comedy. But SNL is not acting for the smart minority...
