The real cannibalism story out of New Orleans (The left EATS IT'S OWN)
Wizbang ^ | 9.17.05

Posted on 09/18/2005 10:36:21 AM PDT by mhking

One of America's greatest strengths in the past has been our ability, in the time of great national crisis, to set aside our differences and pull together as one nation. I think the last time we saw it demonstrated was after Pearl Harbor, when nearly everyone united behind President Roosevelt and we (essentially) took on the world -- and won.

In the case of Hurricane Katrina, we are seeing just the opposite. Instead of trying to help those who have been devastated by arguably the greatest disaster in our nation's history, far too many have rushed to make political hay out of the situation. It's a temptation I've caught myself succumbing to on occasion.

But some rare few have managed to look beyond and hear the cries of the people over the howling mobs.

I freely admit I never thought much of Donna Brazile. She's a political hack, whose main claim to fame has been her key role in more failed Presidential campaigns than anyone I know (Carter '80, Mondale '84, Dukakis '88, Gore 2000, Kerry 2004). That might not be fair, because she also worked on the only successful ones of the last 30 years (Carter '76, Clinton '92 and '96) as well. I always thought of her (when I bothered to think of her at all) as sort of a Mirror Universe Karl Rove: black instead of white, female instead of male, inept instead of supremely competent.

But I received an e-mail this morning from a fellow named Jim Hall. He pointed me to this op-ed piece in the Washington Post by Ms. Brazile. It turns out she's from New Orleans, and she is publicly offering to help out President Bush in any way she can in rebuilding her city. Further, she's openly praising and thanking him for his speech and his commitment to the city and people of New Orleans. She freely admits her past animosity and opposition to him, but she's putting that behind her for the good of her neighbors. It's one of the classiest things I've seen from a politician from any party in a very, very long time.

Naturally, this has driven some on the Left into frothing, raving fits of rage. "Rob in Baltimore" from Americablog.com immediately played the "victim card" on Ms. Brazile, saying she must be in some kind of shock and suffering from a "Stockholm Syndrome" effect to even THINK of saying anything DECENT and RESPECTFUL and APPRECIATIVE about Bush. And of the 108 comments posted by the time I write this, there's only one single voice of sanity in there. Meanwhile, others toss around such wonderfully enlightened terms as "N*****" and "C***" to describe her.

In the early days of the disaster in New Orleans, there were reports that things had gotten so bad, there were incidents of cannibalism. Those were later discovered to be unfounded, but it appears there was a bit of prescience in that. In the wake, at least some on the left are starting to turn on their own.

"She worked for Ted Kennedy, that makes me question your assessment. she was behind the vicious attacks on Clarence Thomas. If I remember Correctly she was Anita Hill's "handler" for the Dums."

I said she seems to have a SHRED of decency. I hope you didn't overestimate the size of the shred I was implying, Democrats are a nasty loty as a rule.

My god, there's blood everywhere at AMERICAblog. I think they've done so too many drugs or they don't have enough, I just can't tell...

Yep. I'm pinging PJ-Comix, 'cause there's enough fodder for an episode or two of Dummie Funnies...

Pop some popcorn and go from there...

Perhaps she is sincere in this case.

I will never give a liberal the benefit of doubt.

I will assess her motives and actions when this story has had a chance to age a bit.

These reports left a bad taste in my mouth.

Seriesly, I didn't think that this was really happening...People can go for a LOT longer than two days without food, and I would have to be half-dead and completely insane with starvation to even consider chomping on some rotten human corpse.

But wait...I did hear somewhere recently that starvation was "euphoric".

Nevermind.

I have some marshmallow flavored popcorn, some hot peppered popcorn, and some butterfinger-flavored cocoa that I laid in for Ophelia's dark and stormy nights-

somehow, plain popcorn just doesn't seem flavorful enough for the day.

I agree with you .. and she has written in the last couple of years several critical things about the path the dems are taking. I hope her common sense approach to this disaster will allow a lot of other dems to step up and join her.

It may be self-motivation which drives her - but I'd rather have that than the constant drumbeat of BUSH-HATERS.

Begone, you have no power here. Go stick your strawmen in a more friendly freeper cornfield.

I must admit that I was particularly impressed with the poster's subtle "Wizard of Oz" references.

Other than that, it was basically crap.

the TRUTH is that you cannot trust the mainSLIME national media to tell the truth about ANYTHING. nothing, zilch, zero, nada!

pardon me for my cynicism, but i've caught them in TOO MANY KNOWING LIES!

just ONE example:during the RVN war all three TV networks alleged that a personal Army buddy & school chum of mine had committed several murders/rapes/robberies over the Christmas holidays of 1968.

when notified by his widow that Jerry had been killed (while on R&R) in a car accident more than SIX MONTHS before (on 16MAY68) the alleged incident, ALL THREE networks refused to clear his name!

believe ANYTHING they say at your peril!

Wow...I don't particularly trust Donna but I'm willing to give her a watchful benefit of the doubt...but reading the comments on this blog, these people get seriously deranged when someone leaves the reservation. You can always tell the ones who have been angry since the sixties...they just LOVE the phrase "truth to power". Guess we all better watch out on the 24th...all 50 of them will be storming the white house and declaring themselves chairmen of the US.

Let's watch her..... Katrina may have pushed her over the edge, ala Zell Miller.

Every day, another example (reaction by RATs to Brazile's column) of the RATs being more interested in gaining power than doing good for the nation.

Some day, many Democrats will start seeing the RAT in Democrtat poltics.

Can you imagine how bad they taste, given how foul they sound and smell? Something sronger would be needed to hide that, like jalpenos or horseradish sauce.

You're very right. As soon as it's done down there, I suspect she'll be lying again as all democrats must.

For now, I am inclined to take the story at face value -- Brazile's concern may just be that New Orleans won't come back -- people who have left may find jobs in other cities, and those who come back will be less likely to be Democrats than those who don't.

I think Donna Brazile is sincere ... but here is a thought:

Without the New Orleans 'plantation' of Democrat-dependent voters, Louisiana would not be voting for Democrats.

Without that help, Clinton would not have been elected, and future Democrats would have a harder time.

She knows this. If New Orleans residents are scattered, that's 200,000 Democrat votes scattered.

Rebuilding New Orleans to the Democrats means rebuilding the conditions that gave them a political power base.

So the effort to help can be both sincere and self-interested.

Gee ... it's a good thing the left is free of racism and sexism. Can you imagine what they'd be posting if they weren't?
