New Orleans is not just A port, but THE port. That's why it was founded by the French, even though even they recongized it as a mud bank on the side of the Mississippi.

The same port some dodo on CNN said Stonewall Jackson fought the French for. lol

"That's nonsense. The Government was trying desperately to help people in an emergency. There wasn't time to have weeks of staff studies to come up with foolproof means of support.

There are hundreds of thousands who were suddenly homeless. This has been inprecedented. Using normal standards of spending and audit in an emergency is just not realistic."

What's "nonsense"?

The Fed unprecedently handed out thousands of $2,000 debit cards like they were Easter Eggs because of political pressure.

FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) is not supposed to need "weeks of staff studies" to know what to do in this situation. They are supposed to have THE plan in place.

FEMA had proven to be ill-prepared and almost as incompetent as much as state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans -- something Dubya promised would indeed be "investigated."

Happy to make your acquaintance!

Me too! :) And all the best to you and yours.

I just try to answer any pings before I go to bed and/or irritate my husband, whichever comes ... last. ;)

Goodnight. :)

I think Rush now refers to Russert as Dim Russert instead of Tim Russert. It is a well deserved nickname; russert has completely lost his objectivity (if he ever had it).

That rebuilds nothing.

Perhaps they should all move to Atlanta?

When the water is pumped out, all those toxins will remain and grow and there is NOTHING that anyone can do about it in order to completely cleanse/restore it apart from completely replacing all of it. That is not my assessment, that is the assessment of someone with a Ph.D. in the field.

The latest asessment I read is that those early assessments were too pessimistic, and that it looks like things arent as bad as they initially appeared.

So why aren't we using the hundreds of bilions of pork highway spending to pay for this?

Just imagine how much time it would take to negotiate money away from each individual project.

I wouldn't count on a Nightline repeat of the interviews. Ted Koppel was visibly disturbed when their interview agenda didn't produce the responses they tried damn hard to evoke from the evacuees.

That said, I will tune in to Nightline just for fun.

Point is you're missing the bigger picture. Flood insurance never built a home or business. Most insurers don't insure homes or businesses in high-risk areas anyway, for obvious reasons.

Then why are people building in high risk areas if they can't get insurance. I can't believe what I'm hearing from a conservative website!

The flood insurance would have covered what they presently owned. It's not a great situation, but that is what people who live in high risk areas go through.

And the sad thing is this; the President expects you and me to pay for it. It is OUR fault these people refused to leave, so we must pay.

By the way, Ophelia is going to lightly hit our area; (we are all going to die) I think I will go to the coast so that I can get hit and claim that I "could not escape in time." Do you think if I complain and cry and throw a hissy-fit that I will be able to call President Bush and get millions of dollars to "rebuild my life"... No, I did not think so.

FYI, insurance money was factored into the monetary benefits that the 9/11 families received.

Wish he was. But I couldn't in good conscience wish that on him.

He has been through more in four years than any President in our lifetime. I pray for him a peaceful retirement after his incredible service to this country is over.

And I'm still waiting for Jeff to answer as to how President Bush has been spending money for six years when he's only been in office for four, and how he gave this speech to get votes when he's not running again.....

Bashers don't seem to have logic as a strongsuit, do they?
