The more you post, the more ill-informed you show yourself to be.

"Sure he is, just not under your estimation. He may well go down in history as the first black President. Clinton did NOTHING for the black community, beyond what Jesse told him to do. Jesse and Al are mad at this President because President Bush is actually DOING something beyond mere words, for the blacks in this country, rather than just giving the black community a false sense of HOPE and kind words, which is the playbook of Clinton, Jesse, Al and the Democrat party. The Democrats better be afraid, because it will be looked back upon in history as Republicans actually helping out blacks in this country, like they did some 41 years ago."

After the Prez's speech, an ABC "reporter" was interviewing seven evacuees/refugees from New Orleans who are now living as the AstroDome. The reporter, thinking he would be able to hit a home run with these folks, asked them some VERY leading questions and even made some negative commentary of his own. It was beyond obvious.

However, the audience wasn't going to play along...

Despite the almost incessant baiting and leading questions posed by the ABC reporter, the respondents shocked him with their postive responses towards the Prez. Several of them also had some not-so-nice things to say about Nagin regarding "them there buses under water." The more nice things they said, the more obsessed the reporter became.

The President definitely connected this evening. Jesse, Al and the rest of their ilk should be very afraid as the President just got the attention of the general African-American populace.

Maybe, just maybe, we were witnessing these fine folks transforming from democrats to republicans right before our eyes... It sure as hell stunned the reporter!!!

IOW "W"'s not giving them a hand out....He truly is offering a hand to help them pull themselves up....I'm proud of him.

I'm a late poster to this thread after watching the speech and may be repetitive however I found the POTUS to be pragmatic, to the point, and substantial with directive.

It wasn't a politically flowering speech but was a speech with substance showing future directive that can only show to all concerned that all will be done to overcome the demise of nature post haste.

Did you read Unlimited Access? I think most on the Clinton White House staff were able to avoid an investigation.

yes, but remember why that was done. it was done to stop class action lawsuits against every entity involved with the incident. Fineburg did a very good job.

That is how all insurance works. What is your point?

Point is you're missing the bigger picture. Flood insurance never built a home or business. Most insurers don't insure homes or businesses in high-risk areas anyway, for obvious reasons.

Thanks for sharing that! You are so right. There were a lot of hard working people from the area who have lost everything and they want more than a handout. NO was a major city with over a million and a half people in the vicinity. They weren't all on welfare. People don't have a flippin' clue to the reality of the city. All they know is what was shown in the media.

I lived there and I loved it. There is a lot more to the area than just Mardi Gras, ghettos and Bourbon Street. There is a rich and vibrant history. NO is down but NOT OUT. She's been around a long, long time. She's getting a needed make over.

I loved your rant. And you are spot on about families moving back to NO or LA to live in tents or on a military base. There are 35 families from NO in Utah right now, and they have moved into apartments and homes with the help of FEMA money. They want to stay here and start a new life. No way are they going back, especially to live in a tent.

Even if it does not people are hurting, we need to help them.

I agree, but privately not with federal funds. I have no problem with federal funds being used for emergency care but not for social engineering.

The states are responsible for rebuilding, not the federal government. The people of Georgia didn't tell New Orleans to build below sea level or for people in MS or AL to build so close to the coast and not get flood insurance.

I guarantee I and the overwhelming majority of posters on FR could do a better job with the funds and reconstruction than mayor Nagin and governor Blanko combined.

Which is EXACTLY why George W. Bush is NOT giving them the money, you dimbulb.

Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin are not going to be in charge of the funds. They will "lead the effort" and "give their ideas" but the money is going to be outside their control. That is what the Inspectors General are for.

I don't know why you have a hard time understanding this. I thought the President was quite plain.

Well what will it cost? It seems like a 200 billion dollar deal overall. Putting in new pipes when you are tearing down whole neighborhoods, doesn't seem that horrifically expensive. IF the pipes in the higher elevation areas that will not be torn down are junk, that is probably more expensive.
