Ah yes, I remember "The Inspector General" he was played by Danny Kay and I can guarantee that the president's "Inspector General" will be just as competent.

There is NO way anyone can oversee let alone protect against corruption in the disbursement of 200 BILLION dollars worth of government dole. Just look at the boondoggle $2,000 dollar card program that the government just instituted last week. We are just talking about a measly 20 to 40 million dollars. Did you hear what a "success" that was? There was so much corruption, graft and chicanery going on in the space of ONE week that it had to be put on hold. That is peanuts compared to what the president outlined tonight. We are talking about the greatest rebuilding project America has ever undertaken. If you want to get a glimpse of what is going to happen, just take a look at the corruption and cost overruns boondoggle the "BIG DIG" project was in Boston! N.O. is going to make that look like a sand castle in comparison once Nagin and Blanko et. al. get through with it.

"That sound you hear was not indigestion, nor my wife falling head first into the pie while it was still in the oven, that sound you heard was my itty-bitty little Liberal heart sinking in the midst of hope, opportunity, optimism, entreprenuership, and compassion."

You're clueless.

I was trying to buy a clue, Deacon. Once again - from you - nada.

Anyone else better that this limp response -- why did W feel the need to "address the nation"? Especially since all be brought is, "let's spend a bazillion dollars and make everything good?

No, this was a natural disaster speech.

Yeah that is why he brought up racism. This is a disaster for this country as no one will ever buy flood insurance on the coast again and just expect the federal government to rebuild for them.

Why did none of these people have flood insurance?

This has been exposed, by (I think they said) ABC news. This woman will probably have to step down because of this.

I love President Bush. I think, at heart,he is a good man. But it seems what the democrats could not do at the ballot box, Katrina did for them. Here are a few "Republican initiatives as I recall"

600 billion (minimum) Prescription Drug Bill

200 billion cost of Iraqi was (and rising into the future as far as the eye can see)

60 billion requested by Bush and appropriated and signed in the bat of an eye) with another 140 Billion in proposed programs

All borders open like sieves with 15 million aliens in the country

All of this atop a 2.2 trillion dollar federal budget

Before us, we see much mysery and much American generosity, but should we consider the burdon which is not yet seen but will be born by our children and grandchildren not yet born. We are relegating them to a subsistence of a lowered standard of living to spend so far beyond our means. It is natural for people, Americans, to want to help Americans. It is necessary for our leaders to be visionary and see problems and stem their unbridled destruction before those floodwaters overtake a nation.

It is instinctive to reach out to others and try to aleviate pain. This is a uniquely American trait. With time, all bills are paid, either in money, or in pain, loss and sorrow.

Gird up your loins folks and prepare for an economic ride of your life. The printing presses are already glowing white hot and we stoking the flame. We had 5 million victims of this horrible disaster. The disaster which we will see unfold from Congress and the White House will make 260 million their prey.

if only MLK was here today, he would have disowned Jesse Jackson by now.

it is very sad what Jesse has done in MLK's name.

"I stand by my earlier comments:"

Interesting!!!
Then why didn't you include this then, since it was your opening line?

"Bend over folks and prepare to grab your ankles, it is "pander to the poor, screaming black folks" time

And then I realize God does work in mysterious ways:

"Sunny, Christianity has nothing to do with it"

This is an ironically true statement in the context of your posts.

Jefferson was a DEM. If you actually knew anything at all about his polices, while in office, you wouldn't write such drivel.

You have NO idea what a Conservative is and you aren't one.

How old are you...16? LBJ? If you think that President Bush sounded like LBJ, you NEVER heard LBJ !

Yes, many people had insurance, or thought they did, but insurance companies are exactly jumping to write checks- that is why MS is already talking about a lawsuit against them.

The MS attorney general is attempting to take property insurance policies that are written by the state and sold by commerical insurers that EXCLUDE flood and say that flood is now covered. It's outrageous and it simply will not work. The commercial insurers are not denying coverage under those policies they are simply not paying for flood coverage that was not included, was specifically excluded and is something no insurer collected and premium for.

The MS AG might as well say that people can claim for flood damage to their homes on their medical insurance.

(Psst, he's running for higher office)

I feel for the good people of Texas-they're already being hit hard with carrying the cost of benefits for illegal aliens and now will have thousands of new recipients added to their state welfare programs.

Not all those here are on welfare. I had two guys doing some landscaping for me today, two brothers, who lost their home in Kenner. Dug up shrubs, pulled up vines, dug holes for roses, turned compost piles. They worked hard, and I paid 'em well. And one of my other neighbors hired 'em to do some work for him.

I wish we wouldn't stereotype black people on this forum as all being on "welfare."

I'd hire these two guys in a heartbeat if I had my own business. They were so pleasant and cheerful, and they have lost everything!

Have you met any of the evacuees? Worked with them? Offered one a little work to do so he can pay some rent, so he can get his own place?

I've talked to a few, and they just want to work, to start over, to provide for their families.

It's hard to have to almost beg, just so you can take care of your family.

It's not just enough to give something; we have to give more than we ever have before. We can make such a difference to some very traumatized people.
