Bush did not say he was responsible for the local response. He did take responsibility for what the feds did or did not do in the initial response. That's indicative of a strong leader.

I am getting sick of all this finger pointing and back stabbing. If an important part of this nation was devastated, I would expect the feds to take a considerable role in rebuilding, particularly essential infrastructure (highways, bridges, ports, etc.). Tax policy can be structured to provide incentives to local business. Sounds a bit like what W proposed tonight.

though i don't agree with quite everything he does, i would never, ever disrespect Dubya by calling him names. ('hottie' isn't disrespectful, is it?)
i'm not sure what else he could do in these circumstances, either...man has he had some crummy breaks on his watch!! this past week, i've honestly wished i could invite him over for bbq and a (virgin) beer.

Sorry I was getting kids to bed (i.e. herding cats) and missed the woman on Brit's panel. Was she blonde?

I also don't think any of this is racism. But they are poor, they are black. They are Americans and deserve our compassion as a people struck by a significant catastrophe. People can blame the local politicos all they want, but what's done, is done. Now, let's get the mess cleaned up and learn from the experience.

You should have been here in Houston. We know what it's like to get hit by storms. People lending a hand to these folks is just a natural thing. I suggest that we not spend a lot of money sending folks back to New Orleans to live in squalor but give these people a hand and incentives to start and own their own businesses.

I think for some of these folks (this is the point Barbara Bush was trying to make) they are better off in the long run in that they are out of the slums of New Orleans.

Why as a taxpayer do I have to "do my part" to rebuild an area that I don't live in.

Sheez.

Don, if we took half the political advice I've seen you give over the years, we'd be the Reform Party.

I swallowed my spit two times to save the Republic voting Republican. I see no reson to swallow a third time.

The amount of expenditure W is proposing will bankrupt this nation.

If he HAD to make this speech, better to speak platitudes and broad generalities.

He is fighting the tar baby.

They just make fools out of themselves.

Threads like these really bring them out and it makes it easier to make a list of them all, so next time you'll know 'em when you see 'em.

In the meantime, those of us who haven't gone insane will do what we've been doing for the last six years: electing people to office and running the country.

"One black woman said she blames the mayor of N.O. because they (the feds) "allocated funds to build up the levee, but the govenor never did it."!!!! SOMEBODY ACTUALLY 'GETS IT'!
"

Thank goodness. Hopefully she'll be the catalyst that will start others to inquire what happened with their local government and how the state has failed them. Empty promises are not enough.

Still processing.

I will note how the pundits are doing as I suggested was their intention all along. Tear him down, build him up. They live for this.

LOL

yeah we should let one of our biggest ports lay in ruin.

GEE That will definitely help EVERYONE out. I am sure it fits into your Buchananite isolationist economic models too. Too bad that more will NEVER get anywhere with that.

All of you need to watch Hannity Gov. Haley Barbour was on and made all from Mississippi proud. This is a man who lead this country in 2008. He has been working 24/7 and doing a great job here in Mississippi. Take a look at him.

I figure they will once they figure it out.
