NBC's Williams: Journalists' Gloves Off
AP ^

Posted on 09/11/2005 11:16:29 AM PDT by jmc1969

NBC's Brian Williams says the lasting legacy of Hurricane Katrina for journalists may be the end of an unusual four-year period of deference to people in power.

There were so many angry, even incredulous, questions put to Bush administration officials about the response to Katrina that the Salon Web site compiled a "Reporters Gone Wild" video clip. Tim Russert, Anderson Cooper, Ted Koppel and Shepard Smith were among the stars.

The mute button seemingly in place since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has been turned off.

"By dint of the fact that our country was hit we've offered a preponderance of the benefit of the doubt over the past couple of years," the "Nightly News" anchorman said. "Perhaps we've taken something off our fastball and perhaps this is the story that brings a healthy amount of cynicism back to a news media known for it."

Hundreds of reporters, in all media, did heroic work on the Gulf Coast in the deadly storm's aftermath. None arguably was as financially and symbolically important to his company as the job turned in by Williams.

Williams said he sensed trouble brewing already that Sunday, Aug. 28. At the Superdome, he saw National Guardsman barking orders at people seeking shelter, and patting down small children and the elderly for weapons. The crowd was angry about being forced to stand in line in the rain even though there was a large overhang a few yards away, he said.

Bush got 70+ percent negative coverage during the 2004 election. These assholes are high on something.

There's no bloated sense of self-importance here.

"Independent" really just means indecisive, or even apathetic.

Wrong. There are a lot of independent voters out there who are neither indecisive nor apathetic. They strongly disagree with elements in the platforms of both parties. So they are independents.

It sounds to me like Mrs. Williams' Little Brian was reminding his comrades in the Liberal MSM that there are a lot of Pulitzer Prizes out there to be won with this disaster. There's probably even a chance to meet Kanye West in person at the awards ceremony. Pompous asses all! Hrumpf! Hrumpf!

That's why most Mississipians really could care less if they ignore us-being as we're a Republican and conservative state,AND our REPUBLICAN officials from the Mayor(kudos to AJ Holloway of Biloxi) and our Governor Haley Barbor did what they were SUPPOSED to do,including zero tolerance for looters,AND letting private citizens exercise their Constitutional right to defend themselves, the media would just try to find the one in a thousand disgruntled citizen to show that we're as bad as Lousyanna.

We MUCH prefer just being ignored under the circumstances, and left to get on with our business.

Oh, so Bush has gotten the kid-gloves up until now? Bring it on, MSM. Every bogus document story, every rant against traditional values is another nail in your coffin. Spew away!

The MSM have seen their ratings/circulation figures dropping.

Their new strategy? All Barking Moonbat, ALL THE TIME!

Not all are independent because they don't like either party. In some states, independents can vote in both primaries. In those states, some choose to remain independent. The reason I know is that some of my relatives do just that. To attempt to keep the worst of the worst out.

That was a pretty good post....you're right, the translation is can we (MSM) bash Bush enough here to get Hillary in.....

I think Brian Williams was a White House intern for Jimmy Carter...nuff said there.

BTW, I thought I read some news account from people in NO that said they went past Brian Williams doing his reports, but he wouldn't make eye contact with any people on the street, and the media hid and horded their food and water...

I thought that there was no "bias" in the media. Here they clearly express that they will be openly critical of Bush in their "reporting".

If the Dan Rather story on Bush's Guard service wasn't cynical I wonder what the media's definition of cynical is?

Journalist have been attacking George Bush since the moment he took office won in Florida.

LOL... Even before he won Florida. Remember the media incorrectly called the Florida race for the Democrats before the polls closed in the Florida panhandle.

The MSM works against anything resembling a conservative every waking moment and with every breath and heartbeat. No bias though!

He senses massive left wing political death and is seeking to tell the big lies over again.

It suckes to be a fear driven leftist.

NBC's Brian Williams says the lasting legacy of Hurricane Katrina for journalists may be the end of an unusual four-year period of the usual constant and consistent deference to people DEMOCRATS in power.

A bit more accurate. : )

"...and perhaps this is the story that brings a healthy amount of cynicism back to a news media known for it." =- Pretty Boy Williams

Sorry. Not falling for it. The media was activist for Kerry last year. I won't forget. Never forget. AP and CBS partnered on circulating the story of hoaxed National Guard memos as fact for a week. They didn't even want to acknowledge the inconsistencies the critics raised.

You have to prove you are worthy of an ounce of trust before we will EVER listen to any questions raised because of YOUR OWN cynicism. We are cynical of the MSM.

So in short, Brian "Go F*** yourself."

This Brian Williams, (whose real name isn't Brian) is an elite, stuck-up, lying snob who has absolutley no idea of what he is doing, much less what is going on. He can't comprehend much, and understands little. He has to be spoon fed his news stories because he isn't smart enough, nor capable of putting together his own work. He is just another backwater journalistic hack that got lucky because some dumba** at NBC took pity on this P.O.S. reporter. I do not believe a word he says, and if he tells you the main stream press is taking their "gloves off now", it is only because they pissed all over themselves trying to blame the losers in Louisiana on President Bush!!! I blame the press.

The most reprehensible thing to come out of this tragedy has been the disgusting and traitorous behavior of the MSM,

Lots of Reporters are not living in reality. These are people who think it is cool to cause anger and division throughout the country. Good news does not sell.
