What's that?
I agree with you. I know that the men on the Florida Wildlife Commission are the ones who worked at getting it passed to shoot the feral cats down here...and they are the ones who shot BoBo the tiger....and they were called to the gulf to shoot them now. I will withhold the rest of my opinion at this point.
Not with me. You are correct.
This is the parish that left their helpless elderly to drown in the nursing home. I am so thankful that I live in a more conservative area of the state. What's going on down there is scary. This is what happened in my family trying to help a friend out who was stuck down there.
My brother and BIL went to Metairie to get a friend and his dog and they were roughed up by the Jefferson Parish sheriff's department. My BIL is a heart patient and they grabbed him out of the truck, threw him to the ground and put a gun to the back of his head. He's a heart patient and started having chest pains and arrythmia's.
When he tried to tell them he was a heart patient they called him a douchebag and to STFU. They refused to offer medical assistance and made them stay at the friends house without electricity and the black mold already growing. They tell people to leave but then they will not allow them to get out. It is totally FUBAR'ed over there.
Since 911 is still out of service there they could not get help. My brother finally reached my sister and she called 911 and was told that since the police were involved there was nothing they could do. She finally got through to the LA State Police and finally said if he doesn't get help immediately he could die. The state police did get some help for my BIL by sending a fire truck with 3 paramedics. My BIL was in put in CCU and the doctor told them that his test results were at the level of someone who would have been on a treadmill for a stress test for over an hour.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's department tried to say it was the military who was responsible but my brother said nope it was the local law enforcement goons. They are out of control. More people have died from the locals unprofessional behavior than the dang storm it looks like.
Actually alot of us have been here before 2000---lurking...like me.
D.U. will be filled with freedom of speech inspired obscenities upon learning that animals were hurt.
Liberals are only concerned for people who they perceive as being liberated "against their will" in Iraq.
KittiePING to post 80.
I don't know if the sheriff only shoots dogs, he talked about pets i9n general.
I hope that cute kitty in post 80 was rescued.
There are shelters in Florida that will accept pets. We have a whole chain of shelters here and there's no reason for people to stay home and die with their pets. I am perhaps more realistic about mine - animals usually survive better than people - but many people, especially the elderly, won't leave without their pets. That's not a problem we have here, because they can bring their pets with them.
I read that LA had a whole network of small shelters, btw, some of which probably accepted pets. Most of them were empty or underoccupied because the mayor and the governor couldn't figure out any way to get the PEOPLE, let alone pets, out of NO and disperse them to higher ground.
Your share of taxes going to the effort can be for the National Guard to look for people. My share will be for them to feed starving dogs. The people are more likely to either be able to fend for themselves or be dead already.
Horrible story. I am so sorry.

Yes, and is this the parish with the squalling president? The parish where the OEP worker who was responsible for evacuations failed to get his own mother out of the nursing home and she drowned?
Yes, but for many disaster victims, the company of a surviving pet can provide critically-needed comfort when everything else has been destroyed.
Does saying that make me a liberal, or simply a realist?
If I'm in a shelter after having lost everything, putting up with dog sh^t is not high on my list. Of course your dog/cat is special.
Jefferson Parish is where Aaron Broussard is from. The nursing home is in St. Bernard parish where they are shooting pets practically in front of the people in order to get them to comply to evacuations.
There are several places here that will shelter pets near the shelters so that the folks can care for their pets. this thing has been so mishandled that I don't know if we will ever recover from the stigma.
That said, I do not believe that the majority of these animals were wanted enough by their owners to warrant this outrage. I've been around too long to stop understanding how most people regard their pets.
Once these animals are starving and running wild, the best option is to shoot them. Why would you risk National Guard or other personel on capturing animals that in all likelyhood will be put down anyway?
HOW DARE THEY? Man, can't believe we haven't hear a peep out of PETA on this one.

I agree about loving animals more than alot of humans....alot of people would not leave if they had no way of taking their animals or being able to track them in the care of some outfit...certainly not N.O., they can't take care of a simple thing as food and water at designated area's or portable potties ect..I am one of those people who have always taken in stray's and wounded animals and you would have to take them from my "cold dead hands" after you took your chances from a .44 from my cold dead hands." They are part of your family!
If an animal is rabid or has become part of a feral pack, shooting them may be necessary. But many are just scared and hungry and the place is crawling with animal rescue people. Let 'em work for a few days.
