Louisiana authorities DELIBERATELY MADE THINGS WORSE
Various (see article) ^ | 9/8/05 | Various

Posted on 09/08/2005 1:16:11 PM PDT by Politicalities

Folks, I'm sorry for the semi-vanity post, but THIS NEEDS TO GET OUT THERE. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell perfect strangers. Tell everyone. Frankly, I'm absolutely stunned that this isn't the top article on every single news site. I'm stunned that the blogosphere isn't buzzing about nothing else. Why hasn't this gotten the attention it deserved?

In short: the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security BLOCKED THE RED CROSS from bringing desperately needed food, water, and supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. This was done to deliberately make conditions worse. Why? Because they wanted people to evacuate, and I guess they figured that if the people there had the luxury of, say, CLEAN WATER, they'd be less likely to leave. So they made a willful decision to starve and dehydrate the people in the Superdome so they'd be miserable enough to leave... or, if they were weak, miserable enough to die, as a few of them did.

I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. Check the Red Cross site:

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

Governor Blanco doesn't deserve electoral defeat. She doesn't deserve impeachment. She deserves to sit in prison for the rest of her life... or to hang by the neck until dead for inflicting on Americans what would be considered an atrocity if Americans inflicted it on anyone else.

And while this was going on, both the Mayor and the Governor were crying, "Where is the food? Where is the water?" The food and the water were sitting on trucks which were prevented from delivering them by the State of Louisiana.

Tell everybody.

Deliberatly...no...Ignorantly and naively, yes...

We would be just as bad as those screaming "It's Bush's fault" if we start screaming that this was a conspiracy of some sort or another.

Honestly, there is a FR thread asking if Blanco intentionally wished to commit genocide...Come on, let's not confuse total incompetence with genocide or an intentional act to put people in peril for political gain.

Maybe I'm naive, but that would take a very cold hearted and evil person to follow through on....

We are ALL mistaken!! We are holding New Orleans to the standards that we expect in our moderately well run, moderately honest (OK, not you in Detroit) cities.

New Orleans is the most corrupt city in our country. Mexicans and Nigerians come to New Orleans to learn the fine points of filth, corruption and dishonesty.

The black, dem city politicians get a piece of everything and the city police and employees help collect/enforce. Haven't you ever been involved in running a convention/meeting in NO. The Red Cross wasn't stopped; they simply didn't recognize or understand how to respond to demands for bribes, probably called "transit fees," "Parish zonning or use fees," or some other term with a municple sound and payable in cash.

The NO publec sector thieves have been questioned for many years with very few convictions. Any charge that involves competency rather than theft will be a victory for these guys. With billions coming in, their revenue streams look OK for many years.

As the truth trickles out of N.O.; the Demrats raise their level of villifing rhetoric. At the rate and level they are screaming, they should soon be 'white noise'. . .

As for the decision making in LA; what could surprise us when incompetant, corrupt Demrat leaders are in charge.

Both what?

There is much legitimate criticism that can be levelled at the evacuation of the city, launching into hyperbole about the authorities deliberately trying to kill people will detract from that.

Why did Blanco take on ex-clintonite as an adviser(Witt)? Did any other governor faced with a hurricane get help from a failed Fema official?
Jeb Bush seemed to manage just fine during the four 'canes last year. And LA had exactly the same resources.
But then Jeb will get preferential treatment, won't he?

man, just a general comment but I was thinking where would we be without the right and the ability to bear arms. This situation has to be in process of becoming the biggest clusterfoxtrot of our time, I told my son this could be the biggest disaster of our time, and when you think of all the innuendo, the dems wanting dead people to make the repubs look bad, simpletons, getting voted into office and then taking our money and property, there can only be one ultimate conclusion. The question(s) is/are when, and can it be avoided?

The MSM does not take FNC or Rush seriously.

They ignore ratings and simple see themselves are "pure".

Kind of like "theater people" vs Movie people.

----"I still don't think anyone purposely made things worse. Well, no politician at least. They may have made things worse because of ineptitude."----

I'm wondering if this was in their "PLAN". If their "PLAN" had been followed and everything worked well (10,000 people brought with them 3 days of food & water to the dome, etc.) the other part of the plan was to move people out of the dome to better areas where the Red Cross was. And they continued to follow the "PLAN" even though people (30,000) didn't bring enough (any?) water and food.

i agree with you that i don't think that it raise to the level of criminal neglignece or a pre planned act to do this.... it would take an incredible cold hearted person to do that...

But... we have had those people in the world..... Jeff Dahlmer...Stalin,,,, etc

They are out there but I dont think blanco is one of them

Deliberatly...no...Ignorantly and naively, yes...

No, deliberately.

THINK! What was their motive? Why did they stop the Red Cross? Why didn't they let the aid trucks through? We don't have to guess, we know, they told us. They stopped the aid from going through because if conditions in the Superdome and the Convention Center improved, more people might be tempted to go there... and fewer would be inclined to leave. They explicitly wanted to prevent conditions from improving. That is DELIBERATELY MAKING THINGS WORSE.

I don't think Blanco intentionally wished to commit genocide. I do think she (or those under her) deliberately induced suffering at the Superdome and the Convention Center in order to compel people to leave. Whether they knew in advance that this would cause death (rather than merely mass suffering) is questionable, and depends on their competence. But don't blame the simple decision to block the Red Cross on incompetence. It was a rational, intelligent decision... provided their goal was to make the Superdome and Convention Center miserable.

From even before the beginning of this crisis Blanco has handled everything as a politically calculated decision. Her (and the Mayor's) hesitancy to evacuate the city immediately was based on legalities, money and a memory of what happened last year when Ivan just missed the city.

Her deliberate dereliction to deploy her own National Guard as a "law enforcement" authority "within" the city was a political decision because she didn't want to be responsible for any direct confrontations that might result in the shooting of "poor, black people" by her Guard. Heck, I don't even see how she could've done this after her own Attorney General practically justified the looting on national TV.

From her failure to seek federal assistance before the storm...and her refusal after, she just didn't want to turn over control to a Republican administration that might make her look incompetent. Not to mention the dirty little secrets that might be exposed if the feds had expanded authority within New Orleans.

Agree with you 100%. We seem to live in a "clueless" society. First noticed at Wal-Mart, Comp-USA and our government. I've actually had workers in all 3 places tell me, "I don't have a clue." And they were right.

I've been barking about this all day. We don't need commissions, we need prosecutors. These death mongers need to be sitting in a cell, not continuing to obstruct the rescue and recovery effort.

I guess we now know why the police kept driving by and never giving the people on the bridge anything to drink. This was all documented on Fox, Smith and Rivera pleading for someone to bring some water.

It's called depraved indifference!

It's not depraved indifference. Depraved indifference happens when an action with a desired consequence produces an unintended consequence that the actor knew or should have known was likely. This wasn't depraved indifference, because the consequence wasn't unintended, it was exactly what they wanted.

To draw an analogy: if I close my eyes and spray automatic weapons fire down a busy street, I can claim that I wasn't trying to hit anybody, I just wanted to fire my weapon. But if any of my bullets strike a target, I'm still guilty of murder because of depraved indifference, because I knew or should have known that bullets hitting things is a likely consequence of firing an automatic weapon.

If, on the other hand, I deliberately raise a gun to a person's forehead and carefully pull the trigger, that's not depraved indifference. That's just plain murder. And that's what the Louisiana authorities did.
