The Red Cross has confirmed to Fox News Channel's Major Garrett that they had requested permission to take food and medical supplies to the Louisiana Superdome in the hours immediately after Hurricane Katrina's landfall. That request was denied by none other than Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.
Garrett appeared on Hugh Hewitt's syndicated radio program this evening to discuss the shocking revelation.
MG: Well, the Red Cross, Hugh, had pre-positioned a literal vanguard of trucks with water, food, blankets and hygiene items. They're not really big into medical response items, but those are the three biggies that we saw people at the New Orleans Superdom, and the convention center, needing most accutely. And all of us in America, I think, reasonably asked ourselves, geez. You know, I watch hurricanes all the time. And I see correspondents standing among rubble and refugees and evacuaees. But I always either see that Red Cross or Salvation Army truck nearby. Why don't I see that? The Louisiana Department of Homeland Security is directly under the command and direction of Governor Kathleen Blanco. The same Kathleen Blanco who has whined and blamed the federal government from her perch in Baton Rouge throughout this entire crisis. The same Kathleen Blanco who has stared at cameras with deer-in-headlight-glazed eyes since Hurricane Katrina made landfall. The same Kathleen Blanco who, after being asked about federal help prior to landfall said, "No." The same Kathleen Blanco who rescinded Mayor Ray Nagin's order to completely evacuate the city due to dangerous conditions just today.HH: And the answer is?
MG: The answer is the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, that is the state agency responsible for that state's homeland security, told the Red Cross explicitly, you cannot come.
HH: Now Major Garrett, on what day did they block the delivery? Do you know specifically?
MG: I am told by the Red Cross, immediately after the storm passed.
Was Kathleen Blanco's goal the death of as many of those in the Superdome as possible?
In the beginning, I would have dismissed this outright but now it's something I need to think about.
Brit Hume runs his own track, separate from the New York crew. It will take some time (and a few thousand e-mails from listeners) before the New York crew gets with the program.
A couple of things- one night last week on Larry King either the governor OR the head of the Red Cross discussed this not letting the RC into the dome. I'm sorry I can't remember which night - but apparently there was SO MUCH other news going on that it wasn't picked up on. It would be intriguing to read that transcript.
I know I'm not the only one who's had a deeply uneasy feeling since the beginning- something else is going on. I've not been sure if it's about the levee system- or exactly what- but I've been watching the world for too long to mistrust my "bellyometer". I simply don't know what the something else is. We'll find out though- I hope they know they're dealing with ordinary Americans who will insist whatever the ugliness is comes to the light of day.
"What he has suggested is in fact standard marxist doctrine, part and parcel of the "end game" of the class warfare scenario.
When "the useless eaters" have served their purpose (gotten enough lefties elected to permanent office, scared "the vast middle" into welcoming repressive unconstitutional legislation), then they are of no further utility, and they tend to have very short half-lives after that point is reached."
I keep taking my tin foil hat off, then jamming it back on. Whip it off, jam it on. Then, I read your words, and think there are a few of Bill and President Clinton's friends that might have answers. Vince Foster, where arrrrrrrrrre you?
"Am I hallucinating, or have I seen an MSM sea change today. It started with a stupid Fox News liberal Chicago columnist (Heneken or some such name) contributor saying it was time to stop the blame game. And he has been one of the loudest screamers for drawing and quartering Bush. Continued with the Commie News Network text reader babe Paula Zahn going on about all the finger pointing, that it should end and to concentrate on the victims. Then the brain dead Aaron Brown chimed in it needs to be tamed down.
It just appeared to me the NO victims were not the only ones getting out, but the MSM rats were starting to jump from the dem's sinking ship in order to save some face."

No, you're not hallucinating they're turned a kinder, gentler corner AND something else happened today(yesterday)...see post #179
I completely agree with you about the "bellyometer". There is something something going on here. And it's more than a bunch of incompetent RATS running for cover.
Because she didn't want the people to stay. She wanted them to evacuate dontchano? That's why they were dumped in the Superdome with no way out. It all makes sense, reasonable people can see it; just keep thinkin about it and you'll see it. The Dems understand it.
Good find hole_in_one!
Yep- whatever it is must be really, really ugly. Also possible there's more than one- but all under the umbrella of LA corrupt politics.
Is there any way we can get the name of property owner in NOLA on the internet?....WOuld love to know if Soros, B(l)ank-O, etc. are involved?
"I don't mean to boast, but I predicted that this is what exactly would happen a few days ago, now the MSM is in 'Let's not point fingers mode.'"
Any theory about why did all the RATS crawled out from under their rocks yesterday, the minute the media decided to quit. See post #179
The governor is corrupt and incompetent as is the mayor. To play this race card is indefensible.
Great title!
"The problem the democrats have is that if they had implemented this exact same plan after a dirty bomb attack, they might have succeeded. But with a hurricane, the element of warning and evacuation comes into play, and the state government actions prior to the arrival of the hurricane can be questioned."
Pass the tinfoil and pancakes, please.
>>You're right. Racism simply does NOT exist. <<
Did anybody ever make the ridiculous claim? No.
Is your point that because racism exists, genocide is what happened at the Superdome? I don't follow that logic. That would be an idiotic assertion.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point, and if so, forgive me.
If the State of Louisiana wants to backtrack, and claim there was a "security" issue, I want to know who it was that was searching and using a wand on the people entering the Superdome. It sure as hell looked like they were "security" to me!
And if the Louisiana Officials were directing people to the Superdome, and there was no security, even though "security" was searching people, then it was negligent to direct them to a place with no "security." (This sounds like "Catch 22." "Yes Yossarian, the "security" personnel searched people, but we had no "security" on duty.")
Senator Leahy was livid that people were being denied basic supplies, when the news crew could get in, but supplies couldn't. Well, he needs to read FreeRepublic, or watch FOX NEWS CHANNEL, because there is reportage that supplies were available, they could have been delivered, and a lot of suffering could have been avoided.
Instead, people weren't evacuated, they were directed to a hell hole with no "security." Because the "security" didn't constitute "security," supplies were not allowed to be brought in. And because relief supplies were denied, people suffered. And BTW, the press could get in, but helicopters couldn't. I guess it was because there was no "security," or "snipers" or something like that.
The net result, is that ill informed or negligent decisions were made, and people were needlessly subjected to monstrous and hellish "living" conditions for a lengthy period of time. And THAT, as President Bush might say, is "unacceptable." The actions of the officials of the State of Louisiana are similar to what Mugabe, or Castro, or Saddam Hussein might have done. In fact, this could have been a U.N. operation, because it was so negligent, incompetent, and unconscionably cruel.
"If the locals didn't enact their own action plan to get those elderly out and instead left them to die, what's that called?"
Murder.
And the response from the President of the Parish was to cry all over the camera.
Not just the president of the parish, but the sheriff, too. I understand that the water came up in less than an hour. But why wasn't that nursing home evacked hours, if not days, before? The sheriff decided that wasn't his problem?
