Just heard on FOX that Blanco refused to allow supplies to be brought to the stadium, "Because they wanted all those people to leave, and they didn't want to create a magnet to bring others there, by bringing in food and water!"""
They were good - anything my mama makes is delicious!
Major Garret this morning on Fox News talked about this, he verified the story by calling the Red Cross.
Still and all though it will be the presidents fault.
As it relates to Lt Col Bill Cowen's report of a National Guard gag order, I posted this in the only gag order thread I could find:
http://gov.louisiana.gov/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=1021
That is a press release from the governor's office for a media event at 2PM Central today with a "what" line of "The National Guard Response to Hurricane Katrina, Timeline"
Has anyone heard anything from that press conference?
My post was sarcasm.
I'm truly glad to hear that. Grin.
Here's another tidbit. I got my copy of Army Times today. There's an article in it about security at the Superdome. Members of a Louisiana Army National Guard MP unit were on duty there, but WERE NOT ISSUED FIREARMS UNTIL 72 HOURS AFTER THE HURRICANE MADE LANDFALL. One soldier fashioned a homemade baton out of a broomstick.
Who is in charge of the Louisiana National Guard? Here's a clue. Her name is Blanco.
STOP THE PRESSES!!!
Here's another amazing piece of fact about Governor Blanco's dereliction of duty:
All along I have been wondering why Gov. Blanco couldn't have, under a state of emergency, ordered school buses (and for that matter all kinds of other buses) from all over the state of LA to carry out the evacuation of NOLA on the Sat. and Sun. before the storm. Since no one in the media ever mentioned such a possibility (that I had seen) I figured there must not be any legal way to do this.
Here's the kicker: on Wednesday, August 31 it seems that Governor Blanco issued just such an order and cited the relevant statute:

National Review has posted this document on their website, but it's a good idea if various freepers save a copy of it in case NR changes the link and the Governor decides to make it disappear. Soooo, evidently the Governor DID have the legal authority to order any number of buses from around the state to converge on NOLA before the storm, but didn't get around to issuing such an order until WEDNESDAY after the crisis was already so extreme.
This is another point to hammer home will all the the media, the Governor is the one who was asleep at the switch and waited FIVE DAYS to do what should have been ordered on Saturday before the storm.
And while they're at it they can investigate the FACT that Gov. Blanco had the power, under state of emergency, to commandeer every bus in the state of LA to save residents of NOLA. Did she do so on the Saturday before the storm, when it would have made a difference??? NO, she did it on Wednesday, August 31...........

Clearly all provisions where put in place for the state to use all available busses to come to the aid of evacuating those found to be in dire straights, e.g. New Orleans. She and the state operatives have no excuse. They screwed the pouch on this deal. But the L/MSM will prevent them from becoming spam in the can.
Nice post.
I am not suprised at the lack of airtime this story is getting!
Well said.
As bad as 20-30 dead due to a cat 4 hurricane, imagine 50,000 dead due to a warm spell. That's socialized medicine for you, in France.
"We really need to form a Female Misogynists Club."
Yeah... it's pretty tough on us guys to do a very good job at being misogynistic with the likes of y'all around here ;^).
(You ARE going to post the Indian pics, aren't you?)
Not ALL of NO is underwater. A hearty band of dry Latin-Quarter folk are desperately trying to maintain some sense of continuity by persisting in their community, and feel no imminent danger.
(OK, maybe I should never say "Dry" as an adjective for Latin-Quarter folk.)
I never read anywhere else but FOX that Gov. Blanco 'refused' to allow food and water to be provided. Why would she do this?
"They can die for all I care"...how typical of you.
Because she/( the LA Dept of HS, didn't want the
"Stadium to become a magnet for other residents,
when it beacme known there was food and water
there.", They wanted the survivors to leave the
stadium to leave and leave the city.
