That's exactly what he did. When he'd roll by someone on the side of the road, he'd stop and pick them up. I had read, and he confirmed, that the folks on that bus pooled their money to buy gas for the trip, water for the old folks, and diapers for the babies along the way.
Now THAT'S the way it ought to work. You see a need, and you do all you can to fill it.
Of course, if the bus drivers did not turn out for the evacuation, the keys should have been turned over to volunteer civilians like Mr. Gibson.
But I guess that is too much to hope for in these days of piratical plaintiff's lawyers. The slightest booboo, and everyone on the bus would have sued for millions.

This young man deserves a Congressional Medal and a scholalrship to Wharton Business School. He certainly knows something about finance, doesn't he? Must have been Home Schooled.
He did more than the Mayor did. He Deserves a medal.
I don't agree. Stealing a city bus is one thing. Stealing a car, someone's private property, is another. How did the thief know that the car owner wasn't, let's say, a doctor making a house call?
Not to say that I might not have taken the same chance to save my family in a dire emergency-- but it would have been a savagery on a par with stealing food from someone weaker, nothing I could ever feel proud of.
Jabbar Gibson is my hero of the year! Well done young man, you saw a need and did what needed to be done, bravo!!
A friend of mine in college escaped Vietnam when it fell. His older brother went back to an airfield that was under attack. He stole a chopper (he was a pilot) and flew it to the soccer field near the family home and got many of the family onboard and neighbors. (I seem to recall the mother and some older folks didn't want to leave their homeland).
They got up in the air and started flying east. They saw another chopper with Americans in suits and briefcases and followed them to the ships.
Only a matter of time 'til he has his own reality show involving a school bus, picking up a bunch of random people and driving them around the country to see what adventures ensue. We'll consider this episode the pilot.
Seriously, I hope he gets all kinds of job/scholarship offers, etc.
He should be the one getting a free trip to Las Vegas, along with the others who helped care for the babies and old folks on that bus ride.
Do you think a prosecutor would even consider this? Not only would he/she no longer be one, I doubt there is a jury anywhere who would convict.
A more important question for Mayor Nagin is this one:
Why weren't NORTA's 364 buses used to ferry poor people out of New Orleans before Katrina hit?
It's a legitimate question. After all, Nagin knew he had tens of thousands of poor people in his city who had neither money nor vehicles to self-evacuate before the storm arrived. So, why didn't he order NORTA to send its buses into the poor neighborhoods to provide transportation to anyone wishing to leave?

NO, we can't do that! That would make them an endangered species really quick! Ten per day, maximum take of 20 per month. That way our kids will still be able to hunt them.

Quit yer bitchen and do something about it. When you finish whatever career you're in now, get certified to teach, and do something about the problem. You could even join NEA and help counterbalance their far-left element.
If you have a bachelors degree in practically anything, even (shudder) liberal studies, you can go for alternative certification. If not, pick the least liberal teacher's college you can find, and do it the hard way. Gripeing about things without doing anything about it is the way we lost what we've already lost. Do a Jabbar Gibson, don't wait for someone else to do it. And don't just stand there wringing your hands, waiting for the Gubmint to do it, either.
This isn't a personal attack on you, either, btw. I've seen many comments like yours, and in some ways you're absolutely right, but there are at least hundreds of thousands of conservative teachers, and we need a lot more of them desperately. Many kids, white and black, asian & hispanic, have no male role model at all. The more we can get, the better off we'll be. Heck, my most liberal teachers (I have been back in college for the last 6 years, now) encourage me to complete all this and get to work, because there is such a crying need for male teachers. Good conservative female teachers are needed just as badly, too.
I don't think so either, but apparently some local government idiot said that was being considered. THat's the point - that it was even being considered.

Both have addressed the "posing nary a critical question" question. Yes the guests say what they please, as long as it is not going to insult the audience. Both have terminated guests and on a few occasions there has been turmoil off air. I started listening to Bell about twenty years ago before UFOs.
But here's the important part. Few guests are crackpots. Some deal with outside the mainstream stuff. But! A large number of guests are mainstream reporters, businessmen, scientists, educators, etc. and they are on for three hours usually -- not ten or fifteen minute sound bites. If you can / have to stay awake at night most shows are worth it. IMO.
(Ummm.... Not as America's most wanted BTW)
Have yet to be on "Coast to Coast". - Guess I still have not made the "big time"! Sigh.
