That's exactly what he did. When he'd roll by someone on the side of the road, he'd stop and pick them up. I had read, and he confirmed, that the folks on that bus pooled their money to buy gas for the trip, water for the old folks, and diapers for the babies along the way.
Now THAT'S the way it ought to work. You see a need, and you do all you can to fill it.
A friend of mine in college escaped Vietnam when it fell. His older brother went back to an airfield that was under attack. He stole a chopper (he was a pilot) and flew it to the soccer field near the family home and got many of the family onboard and neighbors. (I seem to recall the mother and some older folks didn't want to leave their homeland).
They got up in the air and started flying east. They saw another chopper with Americans in suits and briefcases and followed them to the ships.
He should be the one getting a free trip to Las Vegas, along with the others who helped care for the babies and old folks on that bus ride.
