President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Did you all see these statistics? Mary Landrieu on ABC this morning blaming the President for this and the levees, but here is the real levee information that we need to spread far and wide:

even if we were sending more money, looks like it would go down a rat hole. Those Parish Levee Boards are as corrupt as the rest of the state. Here's some stats from the morning talk show thread:

over the last 10 years, the Levee Board has:

1) Bought a casino

2) Bought a private marina

3) Bought a private plane

4) Invested several 100 million with friends

She sounds just precious. Conditions there are bad according to Geraldo. Film at 11:00 (or sooner, no doubt).

This picture of Jesse Jackson just published online in the Alexandria newspaper. What intrigues me is that he's brought several hundred people from urban New Orleans to rub shoulders with suburban families who were among the first evacuees from the southern parishes. This is gonna get ugly, folks.

Geraldo is such a ham, but if he has saved a human being from death, then he's a hero too.

PRAYERS FOR THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA

Virgin Mary statue still standing by destroyed home.

For those who died in Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath:

Lord, as we mourn the sudden death of our brothers and sisters who died in Hurricane Katrina, comfort us with the great power of your love, and strengthen us in our faith that they are with you for ever. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them, may they rest in peace. Amen.

For those suffering due to Hurricane Katrina:

All powerful Father, God of mercy, look kindly on those who suffer due to Hurricane Katrina. Ease their burden and make their faith strong, that they may always have confidence and trust in your fatherly care. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Father of mercy, You always answer your people in their suffering. We thank You for your kindness and ask You to free us from evil, that we may serve You in happiness all our days. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

There are a group of higher ups that would like to have her ejected from the office immediately and are looking at the means to do so.

Fantastic!!!!! The people will speak at the ballot box. The gov. is still in charge of the National Guard, the Pres., the active duty military. She refuses to give up control.

Sorry, didn't think of that. I'm just annoyed that the guy comes into our area in the middle of the night, grandstanding and making demands. The City of Alexandria had already announced that it was at capacity, but lo and behold, here comes Jesse Jackson making all sorts of pronouncements that the rescue effort in Rapides Parish isn't "family-friendly" enough to suit him. Why did he bring the buses here then??

Floritta was probably safer in her home than she will be down at the convention center. She sounded like quite a self-sufficient lady. I wish her well.
