Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.
Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

They have been too busy Calling Bush a racist and trying to pin this all on him to worry about covering that bit of news.
So the Guv hiring Witt may be like appointing Gorelick to the 911 Commission. Cover-up operation.
"Burn Baby Burn", IMHO. Another "diversion" tactic, is how I've been observing this "arson" thing since yesterday.
Why don't you back off JUST a bit, huh?
Yep, that's what I was wondering. Agree w you.

Governor Blanco's Remarks from Noon Media Briefing
Governor Kathleen Blanco
Remarks from 12:00 p.m. media briefing
Sept. 3, 2005
Our National Guard troops continue to save lives throughout Louisiana today. We continue to make good progress.
Right now, there are more than 12,000 National Guard troops - soldiers and airmen -- working in Louisiana as part of what is now known as "Task Force Pelican."
Those include 5000 from Louisiana. Seven thousand from 29 other states. By Monday, we will have 4000 additional reinforcements.
Federal law prohibits active duty troops from conducting law enforcement activities. Therefore, I have directed my senior military officer, Major General Bennett Landreneau, to focus the National Guard efforts on continuing to create and maintain a secure environment. A secure environment is critical to continuing search and rescue operations and restoration of critical infrastructure.
These men and women are doing heroic work saving people and restoring order.
Yesterday, I personally briefed President Bush on our requirement for additional federal assistance. In response to this request, this morning President Bush announced more than 7,000 additional troops are on the way to help with hurricane recovery.
These troops are from the 82nd Airborne, the 1st cavalry and the 1st and 2nd marine expeditionary forces.
These federal troops will operate under the direct command of Gen. Russ Honore, a Louisiana native, who is the commander of Joint Task Force Katrina.
This is welcome news. And I phoned the White House this morning to express my appreciation to the President.
The combined forces of Task Force Pelican and Joint Task Force Katrina gives the manpower and equipment that are necessary to address our most pressing needs.
My goal is to complete life-saving operations, safely evacuate all affected areas, and transition our displaced citizens to begin restoring some semblance of normalcy to their lives.
To reach that goal, we are using every resource available . one of those resources is standing with me today.
I want to introduce you to James Lee Witt. Mr. Witt ran the Federal Emergency Management Agency for eight years from 1993 to 2001. He has more than 25 years of disaster management experience.
I have asked Mr. Witt to advise and assist me and Gen. Landreneau on the recovery effort.
As FEMA director, Mr. Witt turned was credited with turning that agency around.
His leadership is proven, his experience is extensive and he is an asset to this recovery effort.
They are pumping water back into the lake with portable pumps they brought in.
David Gregory gets my ire up every time I see his face.
"I've drove acrost it."
Yep. I done drove acrost it, an allaway back, m'self.
Yeah - but you forgot to mention watching the McGuyver reruns, all of 'em <g>
ahhh very good one!
I prefer, after consultation with a former Marine, a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun, with a variety of ammunition, including slugs and double ought buckshot, also some #5 shot or smaller for small game, (unless you are a marksman), a 9 or 10 mm sidearm (ammos is easy to come by), a longer range rifle with easy to obtain ammunition, such as an M1 Garrand, and a small calibre light rifle, usually one which is capable of firing .22 LR ammunition.
If you only get one, it is hard to match the defensive firepower and flexibility of a 12 gauge shotgun.
For basic survival and defense, the larger caliber handguns are not all that useful, but I will say that a .44 Magnum makes a lot of noise and pretty darn big holes.
I am wondering what is going to happen when all the stories of the people who actually fended for themselves start coming out; do you think we'll hear those in as great a number as we did the bad stuff?
I am finding it hard to believe that in all the men, even people, at the SuperDome, there were not enough to band together and stand up to the punks and POLICE THE AREA.
Wouldn't that be a kick in the butt to Governor Perry...who has really made this work...and stepped up right away....
But, he is up for re-election...so these people stay in Texas and vote for a democrat Governor!!!
Would't doubt it...
BTW, I have just noticed on the Fox News scrawl on the bottom of the screen that they are calling the rescued people, "evacuees" now...not refugees!
Dollars to donuts, someone is indeed doing that.
I believe the Alaskan bear population would object strenuously.
I wonder what the flow rate could be on those? not that much, they must be using it to drain spot locations so they can repair the levee incrementally.
why pump water back into an area that still has broken levies?
I can't say he's lying. More than likely he has lost track of time.
